Is this pc any good?

(754-pin) AMD ATHLON64 2800+ Processor

-
(754-pin Socket) ASUS K8N nForce3 250 Chipset AGP8X w/LAN,USB2, &Audio

-512mb pc3200 400MHz DDR memory Corsair XMS High Performance Memory w/ Heat Spreader

-XFX NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB AGP8X w/TVO&DVI

-450w PSU

Right now I have

AMD Athlon XP 1800+
I think I have a N-force mobo
Ati 9600XT
768mb ram

With the new system will I get better FPS then what I'm getting right now with my current one? I play half-life 2, Call of Duty, and Americas Army

System Specs

Yes, it's better.
I'd consider going for socket 939 myself, if you can spare a few more bucks. It has more opportunity for upgrading in the future.

hold out for nForce4. seems like it'll make your b0x0rz 5cr34m. HAHAH okay no more l337. anyway the point is: get 939, and if you can hold out a bit, get nForce4.

Let's say I can't get anything else but what I posted. Should I get the new PC or not?

One last thing what's better

-512mb pc3200 400MHz DDR memory Corsair XMS High Performance Memory w/ Heat Spreader

- GEIL 1024 MB (512MBx2) PC3200 400MHz Dual Channel DDR MEMORY

The reason I'm asking if I should get this pc now is because, I can't stand playing my games on 800x600 with no aa/af and with medium details.

I was thinking the gig of ram too but, supposedly the 754 MOBO I'm getting doesn't support dual channel. The 1 gig of ram is dual channel. What do you think?

if I'm nto msitaken it will run in single channel mode. RAM is almost always reverse compatible.

I do agree with them tho...I'd wait a little bit and save a tiny bit mroe and go socket 939

I think the 1 gig of ram everytime even if the timings are looser. you need 1 gig of ram with the top games now, try farcry with 512meg of ram and you will see mid level loads, stuttering on sounds as they load etc. As for dual channel its better to have it but its not a major issue.

If you're strapped for cash, get the XP system, it should be OK. Otherwise, go for the 64.

System Specs

Of the 2 systems you posted, the A64 is definately the way to go.

Even tho the 754 has been 'replaced' by the 939, the 754 still has some life left in it, and is definately a better choice than an XP system.

The latest and greatest 'Uber System' is nice to think about, but in the end it's your financial situation that dictates just how much computer you can afford.

I built this system (in my sig) just as the 939's were released, and while it would have been nice to go with the FX, my billfold said that the 754 3400+ was the best that I was going to get.
