I recently purchased an extra dvd rom drive:
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...oduct_uid=62587 Seemed to work fine, played hl2, doom 3 and bfv. untill during Far Cry some parts in forest were gettin a bit hitchy? Wierd thing was dvd-rom light wasnt flashing, so surely the drive wasnt being used at that those points? i tried far cry in my other dvd-rom drive that came with pc and there was no hitching?

that's quite possible... all the games you mentioned really can trash a system as they are heavy and intensive games both graphically and physics wise hounding the CPU and memory like crazy
