I have successfully installed and setup my new HD and repaired my old one, thanks for all your help.
I am now wondering how to best make use of my storage space. I have a Seagate 200 GB Ultra ATA 100 7200 RPM drive And a 160 GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 that was previously giving me problems but appears fine now. I partitioned my new Seagate about 120GB/70GB, backed up the important things from my Maxtor on the 120GB partition, repaired the Maxtor, low level formatted it, and now it is partitioned as one big drive. So basically current setup is: Seagate C: 72 GB - Installed Windows and some software on this E: 120 GB - Copied backup from old HD here Maxtor D: 160 GB - Empty What would be the best way to configure my space, I have a TON of music, play a few games, and do the regular copmuter stuff if that is important. Thank you for your help! I am just a little right now,TGx |

That should be fine on overall, but if you like you could make a somewhat smallish partition on the beginning of the 160GB drive and put things like the page file, temp folder(s) and move 'temporary internet files' onto it. Mostly to offload the mechanical access load for those tasks from the primary drive. I also use such a partition for any larger downloads, since downloading files directly to the partition where they will also be stored can be an effective way to get massive fragmentation. Though the file management of various download managers/P2P clients also has a better or worse influence over that. 10GB is an enough amount of storage for me.
The same amount would probably have been enough for your system partition (C as well, but it's a bit of a hassle changing that now. And as mentioned in another recent thread about partitioning there is a thing as to go too far.
