??? Getting a new CPU cooler

Hi!

I have a P 4 Northwood 2.26 GigHz P 4. This, I have O.C. to 2.7 GigHz.
And I'm still using the orginal cooler.

But now I' going to get a new Cooler kit.
I have found 2 coolers that I'm concidering. Arctic Cooling Super Silent L or Coolermaster Jet 4. Are the they any good?
Or do you have another suggestion, that dont involve dismounting the mobo OR the giant Zalmans?

Would like to add that I'm not going to O.C. this CPU further.

you can check out reviews here:

I like Thermalrights and Zalmans, but I guess you don't want the heavy duty ones.

I'm not sure I understand what you're aiming for...
1) Silent cooling
2) Cooler temps
???
And why is it you'd rather buy some POS small cooler than an excellent thermalright or zalman?

Hi krips!

Well, I'm aiming for better temps. And if I can have it silent, its a nice bonus.
As for Thermalright, I know this is one of the best coolers you can get an Zalmans fine too, but it is the weight and the dismounting and modifying of mobo I dont like.

And as I dont have clocked the CPU to the extreme, I belived that if I could get a better cooler than my Intel stock cooler. Then I would be able to lower the themps some degrees?

Thats why I was looking at the 2 cooler kits I meansioned in the first place.
But a s said, any suggestion is welcome.

I have now, except for the Intel stock cooler, 4 Vantec Stealth 80 mm. 2 for exhaust and 2 in front of the case for inlet air + 1 Chieftec 80 mm in the sidepanel aiming at the CPU and VideoCard.

And a 120 mm Vantec Stealth hanging beside the CPU.

My Asus Probe temp software, says : Cpu temp 38 C+ and MB temp 30 C+ Speedfan reads :HD1 Maxtor 80 gig SATA = 25 C+ and HD 2, Western D. 80 gig, 8 mb cashe = 20 C+
This at a room temp of 19 C+ . My Pc have been on for 2 1/2 hour (no gaming)
My Case is a Chieftec Dragon Bigtower.

I don't see the point in upgrading your heatsink if you're not going to try to OC any higher, but you can also look at this review:

Yes, I can well understand why you wonder about me trying to upgrade my cooling equpment with such a low overclock.

Well, I live under the notion of that every - degree is still worthwhile?

And I CANT swear, that I never will O.C. my CPU more? Or getting a more powerful CPU.

I read about people, that O.C:d this processor to about 3 GigHz with stable results. Unfortunatly, they did'nt say wich cooler they used.

And you also having the problems of the summer temps, when the rather good temps I have this time of year is getting higher.
And every inch of cooling ability is valueable.

Thank you kindly for the link, and for taking time trying to help me.

Have you considered the Thermalright XP90, it isn't super expensive and you can use a 92mm fan that isn't very load but still pushes alot of air.

Hi Asmoday!

I read about the thermaltake some days ago at Komplett.se.
And I've read some reviews about it, where people are really entusiastic about it.
Someone even said that the Thermaltake you meansioned, is the best cooler next to watercooling!

And maybe, I will get it, if I can find the courage to dismount the mobo, and remove the original cooler mount.

Can you recommend any fan for it? Komplett, had Papst fans. I dont know if they are any good?
Or if I should get a Vantec Stealth 90 mm?

If you already have a P4, i believe there is no need to unmount the motherboard. It will fit in the original retention holder, atleast it's bigger brother the xp120 does.

Thank you very much for the tip!

This, that you are able to mount the XP 90 / 120, using the intel mount, makes things a totally different matter!

And bettter still, I already have a good 120 mm, that I can use along with the XP 120!

A silly question maybe ?

Shall I mount it for sucking air or blowing air at the heatsink?

I whent to Kompletts site, and the strange thing, whas that the XP 120 whas about 70 SWE Kr sheaper than the XP 90!? Wonder why?

I read a couple of reviews on the XP:s, and jugeing by that Thermalright XP is a real hit!

Thanks again for the tip!

Well, i have had the XP 120 both blowing and sucking air, and there's a minor difference not worth mentioning.
I keep it blowing just because it's quieter that way, atleast for me it is

edit: Yeah i saw that komplett has the xp120 cheaper than the 90 model, pretty weird really...

Hi Asmoday!

Yesterday I got the XP 120.
This is wonderful and "Cool" cooler in many ways!!!
I use an Enermax 120 mm fan on it, and my CPU temp dropped 9 C.

I also got a 4 degree drop on my Chipset and mobo!
Afrer 4 hours of gaming I have a temp of whooping 37 C!!!

Thank you very much for the tip!
I owe you man!

Merry Christmas to you!
