Does anyone know what NCQ is? i saw that some of the sata hd's segate sell have this. from the lil that i gathered it's supposed to be somewhat faster than their regular hd's. also i noted from the reviews that only certain mobos support this technology. does the msi neo2 platinum for the 939 chipset support this?
here's an example of one: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...148-040&depa=1 Also i am looking at some ram for my 1st self built pc: i was looking at these: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...145-466&depa=1 & http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...145-524&depa=1 but as u can see they're somewhat expensive. Prodigal Jenius suggested this: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...145-450&depa=1. so what do u guys think i should get? the rig i want to build is mainly for gaming, but also for a lil rendering, school work etc. i also hear OCZ is good. got any recommendations for that camp? also i'll prolly oc this rig whenever it's built, so should i get low latency memory? Another thing i am considering is whether i should get a faster CD_RW drive or get a DVD_RW instead. i currently have a 12x CD_RW. what do u guys suggest? i would like the drive to be $100 if possible and also perform good. thanks for any help, guys....

For what I've seen of early sayings on NCQ by reputable sites like www.storagereview.com it does not seem to be anything to perticularly look for in a desktop system. The good of NCQ only seem to show up in server/database conditions. On interface support it would have to be a really new motherboard I'm sure. So look through the manufacturer specs of a perticular board if you would like to have NCQ support just in case it would mean something in the future.
Get a DVD+/-RW. All the good ones are really fast CD-R/RW recorders as well. NEC seems great right now even if I run a LiteON myself. It's nice to throw out any old CD-RW and DVD reader units as well. |

NCQ is native command queueing. read more here:
www.viperlair.com/reviews/storage/hdd/seagate/72007/ LL memory is better even if you don't OC. it may give you more overhead once you do decide to OC (loosen timings). Crucial Ballistixs are pretty awesome too. you might as well get a DVDRW at this point, but that's juat a personal opinion. |

either one would be good. I would get the lowest latency you can afford, but the EL series from OCZ offers improved performance even with slightly higher latency, making it pretty competitive.
