how important is the...1. screen refresh rates(my monitor will only allow 60 hz on a 1024 X 768 resolution) 2. hard disk(quite old, three years or so) in playing games specs: athlon xp2400+, geforce4 mx440se, 384mb ram thanx in advance! |

if you disable vsync, then it should be ok. that seems like a pretty small monitor.
hdd speed will only help with loading maps, etc. in general, it will not directly affect framerate. |

the screen's refresh rate is important as it allows for a higher FPS with vsync enabled.
hard disks arent all that important so long as its a 7200 RPM drive and stillw orks with 0 errors |

oh by the way if my monitor doesn't support 75hz(it goes on standby mode) isn't there any possible way to increase it's refresh rate(tools, etc.)

only thing you could possibly do is slowly increase the refreshrate 1hz at a time.. (ocing your monitor).... but be warned.. NO ONE takes responcibility if something happens if you do that...
As long as the HD is working.... it might be best to find another monitor.... because you won't be staring at a hd

even if you could, you would probably end up damaging the monitor.

The biggest thing you could do for gaming would be to change that graphics card!

For gaming on that, I'd drop the resolution to 800x600 - which would probably allow 75Hz refresh rate.
Since the Geforce 4 MX440 is closer to a Geforce 2 than a "real" Geforce 4, it will game like a Geforce 2, not like a Geforce 4. |
