Problems with my Audigy 2 ZS!!!
I just bought an Audigy 2 ZS sound card for my system. My specs are a Barton 3200, 1 gig of corsair ram, ATI 9600xt with the latest omega drivers and I'm running Windows XP professional with service pack 2. I have ALL the updated drivers and fixes of course. I have 2 problems. Whenever I play any game that features EAX and try talking with friends using team speak, the output sound is all jacked up. I basically sound kind of like a machine. I also get occasional sound pops and some unusual drops in fps. This is ONLY with EAX capable games. This is off a fresh install of XP Pro by the way and before I bought the sound card, I was using on-board sound off of my Nforce2 based motherboard. Could it have something to do with the omega video driver? The Mic is perfectly fine because whenever I switch between headphones and 2.1 speakers (which is what I have) in the settings, it usually goes away. Any suggestions?

this is most likely due to how you have your audigy control panel setup
remove any EAX effects from the microphone input (if possible), get rid of any mic boost feature, and re-test

The audigy control panel is not installed. I only installed the drivers.

that means you don't have EAX setup and you have to disable it in games, otherwise it will slow down/crash on you.

Well, I had installed all the software needed for the Audigy 2, messed with tons of settings and I still had those problems mentioned above. I don't have any other audio drivers installed other than the Audigy's and I even change video drivers just in case the omega's was the source and of course, it was not.

what program are you trying to use to talk with...teamspeak?
if so try changing the codec it uses int he options as the default one is kinda poor. And do try disabling EAX in game and see if that fixes some of your issues. |

Well I don't want to disable EAX in games because that would ruin the whole purpose of me buyin the card in the first place. I just moved it to another pci slot and I still have the mic problem. Again, it only happends once I start up a game that has EAX enabled. I use teamspeak to speak with other gaming folks and they say that I kind of sound like a robot and that they can also hear my game playin in the background. Thanks for the help so far guys. This is sooo pissing me off, lol!

Btw, it's not teamspeak that's causing the problem because even when it's not running, I still can hear myself sounding weird through the mic. When I was using my onboard sound, I could use the mic even though it was muted which was cool cuz I did not have to hear myself talk. It does not seem to want to work that way with this sound card. Any other suggestions?

you need to use the windows sound control panel or the CL one to change the mic settings
set the record source as the microphone, but in the playback settings mute the microphone

Where do I go about doing that? The only way I've managed to get it working ok is if I open the EAX console, hit the clean-up tab, enable audio clean-up and choose microphone. Of course, it does not save my settings so I have to do it EVERY time I want to use my mic. I'm sooo close to returning this because so far, it's just not worth the hassle. Thanks for the suggestions though.

try using the windows control panel, i don;t kno how to use the CL software
when the playback mixer is selected (default) mute the microphone then go to properties and view the record mixer. Then set mic as the record source and set the level accordingly
