An Athlon 64 3500+ socket 939. 3800s are more than 500 atm, so the 3500 would be in your budget.

90nm AMD is the way to go. I'd get at least the 3200+ for the 10x multi. The 3500 is an even better choice

if i had 500 dollars... i wouldn't buy anything over a 3200+ 939 90nm...... it just simply isn't worth it considering what a 3200 or 3000+ can do (good enough heatsink and anyone could ride the 3000 or 3200+ up to around the FX-55 speeds)

since it seem you prefer nvidia... I'd sell the cpu/board you have now
buy the Asus SLI board and a 939 cpu and another GT

the 3800+ is a pretty expensive processor. Easily $600 or more (US). The + is part of the model number. A good 939 Asus board would be the Asus A8V Delux. The only other good board for the 939s right now is really the MSI K8 NEO 2 platinum MoBo.

Both boards support Dual Channel DDR, but the main difference between both, is that the Asus board has a VIA chipset, and the MSI board has the nForce3 250Gb chipset. Both are awsome chipsets, but that's all you really have to choose from right now if you want the best boards.

If you like Gigabyte, I wouldn't recommend the K8NS-Ultra 939 MoBo. Those board keep dying all the time. I see so many of them being returned because of no post, or various different reasons.

MSI is a great company, if a bread and butter one. You won't find a 900 page manual describing all the feautres liek you do with Abit, DFI, and Asus, but you WILL get a solid board

Dont take what I said about MSI in a bad way, thats not how I ment it.It's kinda like you have Toyota and Lexus. Both are great cars, but the Lexus has all the bells and whistles on it where the Toyota is just transportation.

Ahh but I've had both the Neo2 Platinum (MSI) and the A8V Deluxe.

Guess which I kept...

(Although the Asus did come with a superb A/V software suite.)
