will this hurt my lcd monitor?
I like to turn my monitor off whenever im not using it or im gone for class etc... will turning an LCD monitor off and on a lot hurt it in the end?
Also I have a samsung 710T, but I am confused which refresh rate I can use with it. In the documentation it lists 1280X1024 @ 75hz as the MAXIMUM resolution, and 1280X1024 @ 60hz as the OPTIMUM resolution. If I use the 1280X1024 @ 75hz will this hurt my LCD?? At another point in the printed documentation it says: "The higher Refresh rate is, the better the resolution becomes. However, this can be limited by the capacity of the system. Recommended Refresh Rate: 75hz (if the maximum resolution is applied, set the refresh rate at less than 60hz)" I am so confused. Thanks Last edited by Bellator; Dec 13, 2004 at 11:08 PM. |

it shouldn't..... i can't see it being an issue ..... it's been my understanding that leaving things on isn't exactly the greatest idea either....

Thanks Judas
sorry one follow up... when I check 'Hide modes this monitor cannot display' in the monitor properties box, only 60hz and 70hz are listed.. but the documentation says it can display 75hz?? Any idea why it isn't listing 75, and if i were to manually choose 75 would this be inadvisable? Also does anyone know what the difference between Optimum and Maximum resos is exactly? thanks again. |

If it's using the stanadrd VGA connector, the frequncy response may not be good enough to accurately sample the highest resolution at the maximum refresh rate.
If the suggested refresh rate is 60Hz, use it - LCDs do not flicker, as the display is retained continuously between refresh. For LCD monitors, capable of low power standby and fast return, I'd favour using a powersaving screensave mode - you want the LCD backlight to turn off when not required, as that is the major life determining component in an LCD, and it doesn't hurt it to be turned on and off under powersave control (a CRT monitor, you would NOT want to cycle in deep powersave for only a short time, as the recycle stresses the heater of the tube). |

leave it at 60hz if, as generally it'll give you a crisper clean image....
as for the monitor Supporting 75hz but not being available... IF you have the latest monitor driver from your manufacturer... it could be just a available option that they haven't made available for any number of reasons.... one being NOT needed or to save you monitors life span
