??? AMD Processor 754 vs. 939

Hi I have two option.
1. Purchase AMD 3000+ 64bit 2.0 Ghz processor (Sochet 754). Or,
2. Purchase AMD 3000+ 64 bit 1.8 GHz processor (Sochet 939)

Which one will be wise decision to buy?

Thank you.

The 939 is the way to go. it has dual channel memory, plus it would have a better upgrade path. the 754s are going away pretty soon.

so? the dual channel memory controller makes up for the difference. when you want to upgrade your cpu in the future, it would be a 939. Like I said, AMD will be discontinuing the 754 before the 939.

There isn't a single "right" answer to this, it depends on each individual user.

A few points:
- the extra 200MHz of 754 generally gives more of a performance boost than the dual-channel of 939
- the 90nm 939's run cooler and can be overclocked more than the 754 (how much more can vary)
- the 754 chips can cost less than 939's of the same model number (and 90nm 939's usu cost more than 130nm 939's)
- the 939 platform will have new A64 processors made for it in the future, the 754 won't

So, with all that said, I would only recommend the 754 version of the 3000+ to you if:
- you are not an overclocker
AND
- you usually don't do CPU upgrades too frequently (upgrade thru multiple CPU's, on the same motherboard)

If both of those are true about you, then the 754 will give you a little more performance for a little less money.
But if they're not both true, get the 939 version instead.

it depends on the benchmark, but I just can't see buying dead end technology. that's just a personal opinion.

everyone is different and you need to decide what's more important. price, futureproofing, etc.

I'd go with 939, unless as Vampy noted, you don't overclock or upgrade

Donator
I have the s939 and I wouldnt worry about the 1.8ghz, I have overclocked my CPU to 2.5ghz + here is a benchmark of an old overclock from last week.

Note this is from a 3200+, my buddy has overclocked his S939 3000+ and beat mine on air, he is using the same board as me - Abit AV8, however the Neo2 is also a good choice. . The important thing to note here is this overclock is stable and temps are below 55 on full load.
