Cold Weather and Laptops
Hey all, I will be traveling from NORTHERN Canada to go home for Christmas. The temperature here can get to, typically, -20. This would be an average. Is there any risk in transporting my laptop for about an hour. You see, I have to get in a freakin' bush plane first until I get to an airport with heated airplanes
I know I shouldn't boot up coming right form the cold...so my main question is do you think just transporting it will screw up any of the hardware? Thanks. |

...the only concern is condensation..... typically.... computers run a hell of alot better with colder temperatures... (allthough LCD displays usally don't like it)
It's usually wise to make sure it's had been a very dry place before being used in the cold.. and even in the cold.. make sure there isn't any moisture.... Laptops are quite excellent when it comes to enviroments.... Only one thing may concern me at any point, and that is expansion when things start to heat up, if things get hot to quick.. they can break... but i've yet to hear a case with a laptop up here... and i've seen plenty of people pulling out a laptop when it's -30 and lower....

I wish I was going too. I'd imagine you could get some awesome overclocks in those temperatures. I'd love to give my M11 9700 128mb a run for it's money considering it gets some mad OC's in the mundane weather of England.
