Never thought that would happen. And that is wierd about the brightness settings.
The cable issue is probably quite normal - they will just be different revisions.

I would say that if this a new monitor, you probably have a decent on-site warranty and I would go down that path now. It looks like a decent monitor from the reviews I've seen and this definatley looks like a fault you can get sorted.
