My new system - yes im proud.
Got a bit of a double-edged suprise this year, unfortunately my nan passed away in august. Unknown to me she left quite a sum of money behind. On christmas day my father let me know that I was to have a share of that money but it was to be used as a final christmas present from her and I could only spend it on something I loved. I'd still give anything in the world to have her back missing you loads Nan.
Here's a quick breakdown of the of the PC parts I bought: Jeantech Apollo Case Hiper Type-r silver 480W K8N Neo2 Platinum 54g AMD 64 skt939 3200+ Winchester 2x512mb Kingston PC3200 Sony FDD (just for raid setup lol) NEC 16X Dual layer DVD+-RW 2x 200gb SATA Maxtor maxplus9 Connect3D X800XT 256mb DDR3 Akasa CPU cooler blue LED Spent the last 4 hours building it with a permenant grin on my face (bar the minor trip back to the store to replace a dodgy motherboard). Anyway it's all setup and waiting for the first power-up. Wish me luck and feel free to post any opinions on the stuff i've bought or any areas I could improve on. Nice, nice. Did you buy all of these parts from a store like compUSA?

Thankyou. All bought from stock in the uk, im very impatient lol . Forgot to mention total cost was around £920 (i'll let you do the converting yourself), Suprisingly price ordering online would have been near enough the same including shipping. Plus if anything goes wrong like the flaky mobo I just have to jump in the car and get it replaced sameday.

I'll let it all burn in for a few weeks maybe a month then I may start experimenting. Should have plenty of headroom with those components but I can't see to many programmes/games stressing it at stock speeds for the time being.
Temps taken at idle with case probes so not sure how accurate. CPU 37C SYS 32C HDD 33C Does that all seem reasonable? Front and rear 2x120mm case fans, top and sides 2x80mm casefans, PSU 1x120mm, 1x akasa cpu fan, stock ATI GPU fan. 6 fans total. Room for 3 more 80mm case fans maybe later. |

Thanks for the advice. Everything has gone incredibly well considering it's been 2 years since my last self-build. Have the Raid set up in Striping (raid-0). Latest Cats installed and working perfectly.
Ran 3Dmark '03 as a test and scored 11,678 with everything stock, overdrive and corecentre off. One thing that does slightly worry me is that 3Dmark '03 and device manager both list X800, the GPU and Ram both check out as XT so im going to put this down to them all being the same basic core but is there a definitive tool I could use to doublecheck? Overall im incredibly impressed and im looking forward to my next 3 days off work so I can put my personal touches on it. Lelisevis |

very nice
![]() for overclocking I might get a beeter known PSU, though, unless you've tested the rails on that with a voltometer. OCZ, Vantec or Antec are my reccomendations...in that order |

http://www.hexus.net/content/reviews...mlld19JRD05MjE=
http://www.3dvelocity.com/reviews/hi...e-r/type-r.htm Thanks for the messages and the help. Just to let you know Pr0digal jenius I did do a little research before buying buddy and my choices were the Thermaltake 480W for £65 or the hiper Type-R 480W for £50 (2 reviews above). Of the 2 the hiper had the most positive reviews. Might be worth taking a look at for those looking for a new PSU as they really are nice bits of kit and the build quality is amazing. |

Congrats on your new system, may it give you countless hours of fun and frustration trying to eek out those last few points in the benchies....
Looks like you got quite a set up there!.. It would be a sin not to try and OC that badboy!

Well it's been one week and my new system hasn't missed a beat yet but now the monster inside me has decided to find out a little more about what exactly ive put together with an eye to potential overclocking. My knowledge of overclocking is absolutely zero but ive decided to start with the RAM. Ive took as much info as I can from CPU-Z in the hope someone can help me with a starting point. One of the first things that suprised me is that it was detected as Dual channel, can anyone confirm this? Anyway enough talk here's what I discovered:
Type: DDR-SDRAM Size: 1024mb Channel: Dual Make Kingston order number: KVR400X64C3A/512 Max Bandwidth PC3200 (200mhz) Frequency 200.9mhz Cas Latency: 3.0 Clocks Ras to Cas delay 3 clocks Ras precharge 3 clocks Cycle time 8 clocks Bank cycle time 11 clocks Dram idle time 16 clocks Hopefully that makes sense to someone and you can help me optimize the settings. Many thanks in advance Lelisevis. |

Replying to myself now, how sad. Anyway ive just noticed the handy HTML generator on CPU-Z so if anyone can help post your advice here and then PM me and I can send a copy for you to look at. This thing is running total stock at the moment so im sure some of you tech wizards would love to help me optimise it
