so you want the drive to be portable? USB2? more info please. if you look at my sony laptop review front page you will see a freecom USB2 drive, only larger than a USB2 keychain and requires no power. 40 gig drive too.

this drive from freecom, uses an hitachi hard drive in a small enclosure and powers TOTALLY from the USB2 port, meaning it works like a USB flashdrive, just slightly larger in physical size and 40gb in storage. its the most wonderful piece of hardware ive played with in a long time. As I said i talked about it a little in my sony laptop review front page, but here is a picture of it. Now I got this believe it or not in my local PCworld in the UK as ive never really seen them on stores (havent looked mind you, but I think id remember something like this). cost around £140 for 40 gig, so quite expensive but it truly is portable, no leads, no external power, just plug into your usb2 or usb port like a flashdrive and wham 40 gig. |

That USB drive looks nice Zardon - look ma, no AC! 40 Gig enough? If not, I like the Seagates (160G is what I use). Dead quiet, USB 2.0 and Firewire - but the thing does require external power.

well 40 gig doubles most laptops storage so yeah I think its enough - i think they are limited to the storage with those drives because the drive mechanism is totally powering from the USB2 port, depends how much of a power user you are with regards to the size - for most things 40 gig is more than enough unless you are moving large movie files around etc. the ideal situation would be to have a massive USB2 or firewire drive for the house then one of those freecoms for carrying about switching between machines. It really is very sexy primarily because you need absolutely no leads or external power sources, just plug in......
