Default Post AR700 Series, Modular Enterprise Routers

BOTHELL, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 30, 2002--Allied Telesyn, Inc. (www.alliedtelesyn.com), a world leader in network technologies for the access edge, today announced major enhancements to its AR700 series of modular enterprise routers in the form of the AT-AR725 and AT-AR745.

The AR700 family is designed to provide an optimal routing solution for the medium to large enterprise and branch office site that has demanding network requirements. The AT-AR725 and AR745 are no exception, delivering the family's greatest flexibility and software options with increased memory capacity. These routers compare favorably to those in the Cisco 1700 and 2600 series but deliver a stronger ROI due to Allied Telesyn's proven standards-based approach to network engineering combined with a low price point.

The AT-AR725 and AT-AR745 present a compelling value proposition for several reasons. The routers feature upgradeable memory, multiple WAN and LAN interfaces using PIC slots, and Compact Flash for simple configuration, all of which translate directly into investment protection and the ability to future-proof. This flexibility, offered at an affordable price, makes the routers market stand-outs.

The AT-AR745 supports up to six PICs, and the AT-AR725 supports up to two PICs, making these routers an ideal solution for service providers offering managed router services and enterprise customers who are seeking flexible and scalable routing configurations. These high performance access routers are also ideal for use in education and government network installations.

Utilizing high performance RISC-based technology, both the AT-AR725 and the AT-AR745 are excellent choices for high throughput, quick response applications. In addition to the RISC processor, these routers include two 10/100Mbps auto sensing Ethernet LAN ports and two asynchronous RS232 ports. With two expansion bays capable of accepting a wide variety of Port Interface Cards (PICs), the AT-AR725 and AT-AR745 offer extensive network support including multiple ISDN PRI and BRI circuits, frame relay, X.25, G.703/G.704, PSTN, leased line and Ethernet connectivity. In addition, the AT-AR745 is equipped with a powerful Network Service Module (NSM) bay designed to support an additional four PICs, providing even more flexibility and expandability of high-speed LAN/WAN technologies.

"This next generation of the AR700 series re-emphasizes Allied Telesyn's commitment to setting new standards of excellence in affordable, mid-range edge access routers," says James Mustarde, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Allied Telesyn. "We continue to gain market share and loyal customers based on our routers' features, flexibility and functionality."

The AT-AR725 and AT-AR745 feature several enhancements to their sister products -- the AT-AR720 and AT-AR740 -- such as a new single 168-pin DIMM socket, which provides increased SDRAM from 128Mb to 256Mb or 512Mb. Both routers also include a 16Mb flash chip and Compact Flash hardware and software capability to allow for future Flash expansion up to 192Mb. Other new features include a -48vDC power option and Redundant Power Supply (RPS) support. The AT-AR725 also contains more processing power than the AT-AR720 at 80MHz, which matches the speed and cache capabilities of the AT-AR745.

The AT-AR725 and AT-AR745 possess the same rich feature set common to all Allied Telesyn routers, including remote access dial-in support, spanning tree LAN bridging, STAC compression, terminal server functionality, IP address management, authentication, tunneling and security, traffic shaping and QoS, and configuration and management functionality. Additionally, the routers offer hardware compression, encryption and Stateful Inspection Firewall options.
