Big Grin Finally ordered my parts

Well earlier this morning, i ordered most of the parts for my new rig from newegg and zipzoomfly. here's what i got:

Mobo: MSI "K8N Neo2 Platinum" Nforce3 for AMD Socket 939
Memory: 2x Crucial Ballistix 512mb pc3200 (2-2-2-5)
Case: Thermaltake VA3000 Black Tsunami with Transparent X type side panel window
PowerSupply: Ultra X-Connect 500w Ultra Modular Blue UV
Hard-drives: 2x Segate 160GB SATA
DVD-RW: Nec 16x Double Layer DVD +- RW Drive, Black
Keyboard: Logitech Elite Keyboard
Thermal Paste: Artic Silver 5 12gm tube

I checked my order status for both retailers and zipzoomfly has my order packed and awaiting shipping and newegg has credited my credit card. so in the next few days i'll be receiving my packages... woohoo. I still need to get my cpu: Athlon A64 3500+ 90nm Retail. Newegg, Zipzoomfly and Monarch all have it out of stock...

question. to install the heatsink for an A64 chip, can the mobo be already installed in the case or it's gotta be outta the case to be installed?

It shouldn't matter... I think the easier way would be to put the mainboard in the case first and then put the heatsink on

No_Style is on a distinguished road

I just got that case and 2 x 512 MB of Corsair TWIN-X. I also purchased 2 x 160 GB Maxtor DM10s (Still waiting on those ) I'm still running my 2.4B @ 3.24 GHz with my P4P800 Deluxe. I'm not planning a major upgrade for awhile and these purchases was only backed by the fact that I sold off some old hardware to pay for nearly 50% of the total cost.

Don't feel bad, I paid $138.275 USD for mine. But I did buy it from a computer store and didn't pay any S&H fees.

You'd need to have the mobo in the case for the A64 heatsink.. that thing's a bitch to get on.. I've put two A64 systems together.. afterwards my fingers would always hurt..

Well....I think it's easier to install the HSF with the mobo outside the case. Espacially if it's a new socket type. It's alot easier to see what you're doing with the motherboard outside of the case. Plus i find it easier to fit into the cae when you can hold on to the hsf while mounting the mobo.
Have never installed a A64 stock hsf though, i went with the xp90 right away..

The xp 90 is very easy to install, you just take the original retention frame out(two screws), and replace it with the supplied one. If you get it, it will be very obvious when you see it. Plus the manual is very easy and straightforward to follow..
