I think 500MB should be more than enough. I have the same amount of RAM as you, and the most I've ever used of my pagefile is around 100 or so. I have it set at 300 to be safe. If I ever do happen to go over that, I'll set it a bit higher, for the future.

Load up a few apps that you use, load a web page or 5 and check the PF usage in the task manager. If you run new games, set it to 500 - 750mb and don't worry about it. You have plenty of space on your HD I assume that 750mb isn't going to be missed.

Beware, the "PF Usage" is not really pagefile usage, but total memory usage (both in RAM and pagefile.) It's mis-labeled.
To properly know pagefile usage, there are a few freeware utilities/scripts (have been posted before, use Search), or you can log it perfmon.msc (will show % of pagefile used.)

md5 has a spectacular aura aboutmd5 has a spectacular aura about

The best guide to read on the subject is the "Virtual Memory Optimization Guide" at rojakpot:
http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx...ar1=143&var2=0

Generally, I wouldn't recommend any changes to the Swap file. Automatic settings almost always work fine
