Dual Layer 16x DVD Burner = $59.99 + Tax

I just got home about 30 minutes ago with a new toy.

MicroCenter near me has some OEM Toshiba/Samsung 16x Dual Layer DVD burners for a total over-the-counter cost of $59.99 plus tax. There's no rebate needed....that's the final cost. It doesn't come with any software....just a plain clear plastic bag.

BUT, I just burned 3.7 GB of old game demos onto a 8x DVD-R (I didn't get any faster ones yet) and it took a total of 7 min 39 seconds to do the job.

So, if anyone's looking for a cool and cheap upgrade for their system, this one seems to fit the bill for me.

The market development for DVD-recorders has been very sweet over the last six months. While I really only use rewritables that are still limited to 4x, it sure doesn't hurt to have the options.

my laser on my CD-RW drive just went out not too long ago, so i'm looking into getting a LiteON 16x Dual-Layer drive in the very near future for my system

my single layer burner is only 4X… but it works, and thats all i can ask for

the fact is that the prices for CD-RWs and DVD-RWs are dropping faster than a blonde stepping on a banana

and that's really good

DVD-RW drives are almost 4 times cheaper this year than they were last year

and the current drives are double-layer

Thanks for the heads-up, I'm off to replace my drive

i'd like for the dual layer media to drop from it's near $20 a disk price, to an affordable $5 a disk. That would be really nice.
