more than likely the HT is disabled in the BIOS. Tell your friend to look through his BIOS and enable HT.

The only prescott without HT is the 533fsb 2.4

i dont know, i had him DL CPU-z and i'm very sure that thats a prescott, but one things really weird is that the P4 sticker, it doesnt have the "H T" on the upper right corner....he know nuts bout bios, so it'd be better not to ask him do anything in the bios

lol. stickers mean nothing. Most stickers that come w/p4s do not have the little "HT" on the top right hand corner.
If he doesn't know anything about a BIOS, then why don't you go check it out yourself and fix his problem? |

well, tell him to read up about it online. it really isn't that hard. pretty much most everything in the bios is either "disable" or "enable"

I just recently bought this same CPU and my HT is enabled. In the BIOS Settings, he should set it to AUTO in order to detect and enable HT. It DOES have to be done in the BIOS settings, though.

Yeah, it could be really a Celeron. If so, then your friend's been ripped off.

Is he running an o/s that supports hyperthreading? WinXP Pro does, whereas the home edition doesn't.
