how many papers was in the tray, all that's been used, how many printed test..
i believe Judas would have found it if he was there. give him a cookie or somethin'..
Nearly the entire tray's worth. Somebody else really had a problem and sent a print job which consumed over 50 pages and then left it in the printer room. I did say Judas was on the right track. No one should be using paper that has gone through the printer once anyways because it could potentially damage the printer and such.

Wait a sec, if it was the paper, then how did the 4100 also have the problem? You put the same paper in both printers?

But, how did the problem disappear for this test?

What a funny problem!

Maybe they pulled the paper out, put it somewhere in the office face down, then went elsewhere. When they got back, they put it back in, without looking at the otherside of the paper!

That's the most intriguing problem I've ever heard of!!! Nice one No_Style, I think this will actually help the greater majority of us in our future trouble shooting endevours!!!!

Stuff happens...

I like it when I don't have to spend the client's money - and they won't forget to check their own paper again!

Sun_Walka's right with how the paper got in there in the first place. I didn't feel bad since we all had a good laugh..

And if it was so obvious Neon, why didn't you mention it? \

What a funny problem!
The user took out the paper when I informed her that I was going to do a printer switch. This wasn't continuous troubleshooting process, since I was working on and off with it. I put in new paper and tested it fine. In fact, a lot of circumstances was added to complicate matters.

Here are the key points that really threw me off the track:

- I installed the printer and tested it with good paper which I put in for the very first time and the printer worked flawlessly. (I believe it was my first major assignment as well ).

- The New Smart Label printer was then installed by another user and the coincidently the garbage text started to appear.

- Checking online and with my colleague, gave possibilities to electrical interference penetrating through the cable or driver issues. (It was after all, a StarTech cable ). AND, just the heating was busted near her area and there was no way to turn it down, so maybe there was a nearby electromagnetic source.

Anyways, twas a good one and I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. I've been asking people what they would do first if they noticed this issue and nobody have said check the paper as their first try. It's always something we assume to be 100%.
