Logitech MX 1000, Blue or Black??

There is now the option to buy the MX 1000 mouse in 2 colors. 1 is black/silver and the other is blue.

Does any one know wich color came out first???

There shouldn't be a difference as the mouse has been available in several colors from the start. There is a polished all-black variant too. Mine is of the most common black/silver-gray type and it's working fine for whatever that's worth.

It works very well on both USB and PS/2 here, and the rate of the mouse optics itself is at about 125Hz wich is the same as USB. Most probably hook it up to the USB, though there might be a slight advantage with PS/2 as it's a dedicated fast port whereas an USB interface may choke momentarily when on high load. If the unability to remove the connector while the system is running is not a problem then I'd recommend trying the PS/2 connector for a possible slight edge in performance.

Btw, for more prices in Sweden: http://buggy.no-ip.com/#Mus

Thanks MKK, I will hook it up on the PS/2 port then if it is faster than USB 2.0.

Thanks for the link, I will buy it at Stygga pojken though, cause I will go to the store and buy it and not paying for shipping.

Yeah PS2 IS faster but then you loose the battery indicator function, the leds won't show the correct measure

Thanks Wertret, didn't know that.....strange though that the leds does not function if connected to PS/2.

No, not a single problem - ive had it in the USB port for quite some time, worked flawlessly (mine is the blue version )

some people are complaining more regarding the software they supply, but as ive been told in another thread im not a die-hard "fast" gamer so im easily pleased (but I doubt many people need pixel precision across two 1600x1200 screens either like myself).

rest assured its a great mouse Dan.

I too have the blue version, on a black icemat revision 2

It's an amazing mouse via USB, and it holds a charge for a LONG time (3-4 days with daily heavy use)

It does get itnerference from my cellphone though

The only thing that bugs me about the Logitech Setpoint software is that it uses two running processes. (kem.exe and khalmnpr.exe, so their names don't help either *grin*) From this nitpicking you can probably guess that everything else has worked well, wich actually surprised me initially. Games can use the five extra buttons if bound for instance to keystrokes. There is a popular tool that adds the capability of per-application profiles concerning the extra buttons, but I've forgotten its name since I haven't gotten around to using it.

I really wouldn't use PS2 with the MX1000... the default sample rate is only 40Hz, giving you more lag, and pretty much wasting fps over 40 in fps (pardon the pun ) games.

USB samples at 125Hz, which conveniantly, is the highest at which the MX1000 will sample, regardless of anything done to it and/or the port.

The Logitech Setpoint driver raises the PS/2 sample rate automatically.

I still wouldn't put it on PS2 though, since I'd lose some features.

Regarding CPU usage, with usb@125Hz, waving the cursor around got me the same (~1%) usage as with the PS2 port. I only get higher cpu usage if I increase the sample rate. At 1000Hz, I can get up to around 6% just waving the cursor around, but that's a nil issue with the MX1000.

Regarding the software, I have an Logitech Corldess mouse click plus (or something) so I tried the software out yesterday, I don't like many programs at startup neither do I like many things in the taskbar, so I took msconfig and took away all those logitech stuff that starts up. The mouse seem to work anyway. IS there a problem if I do this, like I said my settings semms to be saved anyway.

About the usb, ps/2 thing, well it seem to be the same thing so in my opinion it doesn't seem to be any differences, execept for the battery indicator.

the gay little program must be runnign for the "extra" buttons to work, however, the tray icon is useless. If you just want left click, rightclikc, and scroll though, you can close them all

The tray-icon can be turned off from within the setup tool. The battery indicator appears to be working about the same on PS/2 as on USB here but perhaps there is some deviation I have yet to notice. I doubt that they will change the two processes into one any time soon, seeing as other corporations don't seem to mind running a bit messy either like for instance ATI.

I got the mouse today and my impressions is WOW, very very nice, extremly accurate this little bugger, and nice to look at that shiny black thing.

So far I haven't had any problems what so ever, just that I have 37 applications runnig at the start now

Thanks for all your input guys.

I think I'm in love with this mouse
