hi guys, i hope you can all be kind enough to assist me in this situation. It's pretty straightforward; whenever I turn on my computer after it's been off for about 30 mins or more (i.e. everything cools down), something in my computer becomes really noisy. I took off the casing and cleaned the fan with compressed air, so i'm thinking it must be just the hard disk spinning very noisily or something (i'm not good with hardware at all, i don't even know how hard disks really work). In any case, can you guys and gals offer me some form of solution or support? Thanks.

i can't tell what's exactly making the noise, i don't know how i can verify that...but i'm fairly sure it's the hard drive. I also don't know what kind of hd i have, all i know is it is a 75 gb, 7200rpm ata 100, 3.5 inch drive. The noise almost definitely does not come from my cd or dvd drive. thanks again

if it is only noisy during boot up, and quiets down after a few minutes, it is definitely a fan. the easiest way to find out is to stop each fan individually by unplugging or holding them with your finger.

Ok first as i can see your not into the harware scene:
The psu is the power supply unit. Now if you have to clean that i suggest you carefully unplug every thing its connected to and take it outside cause that baby will make more dust than a sandstorm on the Sahara. Second. If you do decide to unplug fan by fan to listen to them make sure you leave the cpu till last as you dont want your CPU without cooling for too long. THird if you arent 1000% sure about doing this stuff get someone else to do it
