AMD 64 Processor question
The time has come for me to upgrade my mobo and processor!
I've decided on the Asus A8V deluxe mobo (good price, and from what I hear, a good board). Now it comes down to the processor! I wanna get either the 3200+ or the 3000+, but I'm not looking to spend too much. I would like to know which I'd be better off getting...the AMD 64 3200+ (754 socket) or the AMD 64 3000+ (939 Socket). Now the AMD 64 3200+ with the lower socket was the same price as the AMD 64 3000+ with the higher socket(from what I've seen). Exactly what does the socket do, and which processor would I be better off buying? Oh yeah and if you know of where I can get these in the retail box for cheaper than $190, do let me know

I'd suggest going with the Socket 939, as it has an actual future unlike Socket 754, and if that 3000+ Socket 939 is a Winchester core, you'd be able to Overclock quite easily.

Depends on if you are going to overclock, and if you plan on keeping your new motherboard long enough that you'll keep it when you upgrade to another CPU later.

s939 is definately the way to go, even if you're not going to upgrade anytime soon. You have overall better performance than s754.
http://www.pcclub.com/product_list.c...64%20Processor I work for PC Club so yea........retail packages are usually about $10 more than the OEM CPU. |

Also remember results vary for the Winchester cores, so if possible try to get one with the latest manufacture date possible.

But I definitely agree with you, if he starts getting into overclocking.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm definately going to get the s939 one then. I am interested in overclocking this, because I've heard you can get it up to 2500 mhz with the stock cooling
.
