Default Post Help Dig pick his new systems set-ups!

No, I am NOT getting ready to buy anything...I'm just SO honked at ATI over the whole driver scene that I'm gonna put my GF3 back in Bubbles. I figured since I'm going to be doing a multi-system tear-down I'd ask for any input/suggestions on how I might better mix-n-match my existing equipment.

Oh yeah, I gotta list me rigs since I'm on a self-disciplining sig change this week. (Sorry again Reid, my bad. )

BluePhoenix: PIII800@944, CUSL2-C, 512MBcas2, GF3(240/530), SB-live5.1, Creative 12xDVD, Mitsumis CR-4804TE, 10/100NIC, 56K Lucent Winmodem, 40GB Maxtor, Hauppauge TV-card, VCR, digital cable, win98se

Bubbles: Celeron 1.4@1.736, TUSL2-C, 512MBcas2, retail 64MB 8500(290/310), FortissimoII, Artec16xDVD, 10/100NIC, 40GB GXP60 7200, win98se/XP

Boomer: Celeron 1@1.13, P3B-F, 320MB, GF2 MX400(240/420), Fortissimo, 32xCDROM, 10/100NIC, 40GB Maxtor, win98se

Any thoughts? Blue is primarily our mult-media web-cruiser, Bubbles is definately my gaming rig, and Boomer is my 5 year old son's pc. All networked, almost all interchangeable, and all do double-duty. Blue and Bubbles are physically located about 6' away from each other in opposite corners of our tiny computer room, Boomer is on the other end of the house in my son's bedroom. We're adding one more box in December since my daughter's been on a "I WANNA COMPUTER TOO!" kick, so I'm building her one for her 3rd birthday. (But it's gonna be pretty low-end....probably a 233MX or something. )

EDITED BITS: Had to fix a lot of formatting probs with the rigs.

Any reason you're getting fed up with ATI?
My 8500 is running great and I just stuck with the Catalyst 2.3's. But if you do go back to the GF3, OC it some more. BTW what games do you concentrate on with Bubbles?

Edit: For Sh*t's and giggles just take em all apart and clean em, I know I always feel better when I do that to a rig of mine, also remindes me what the setup looks like on the inside! Sometime you forget you were going to do a little mod, but never finished it the last time you closed it up. Happened to me the other day with my celeron box.

Default Post Why am I pissed at ATI?

Oh, when Genius and Skud were kind enough to point out some tasty new drivers that I REALLY liked ATI decided to pull another typical ATI no-brainer move and tried to get the genie back in the bottle after it was long gone.

On the brightside I got laid out of it and a new mini-van, on the downside I have COMPLETELY turned off to ATI again.

nVidia might not have had a leak in a LOOOOONG time, but they never throw hissy-fits like this over it! ATI HAS NO FREAKING RESPECT AT ALL FOR IT'S CUSTOMERS OR IT'S COMMUNITY AND I FOR ONE AM JUST FREAKING SICK OF IT!!!!

Ehem, sorry. I tend to get carried away when I get pissed at ATI.

Seems like you came out on top!
I'm sorry you're complaining about drivers you've already DL'ed?

Edit: Holy crap, NO PUN INTENDED, really didn't mean to say it like that!!! Man that was the dirtiest thing I've ever inadvertently said!

No, I'm complaining about ATI's sh&tty attitude over beta releases and all the headaches they caused by unleashing their barracudas at certain un-named people/websites that were helping to supply them.

Oh, and I wasn't on top.

Default Post Can't, does.

There's no point in adding/subtracting ram...512MB is the max the T/CUSL2-C can handle; and Bubbles has the Fortissimo II in her. The GF3 is DEFINATELY going back in Bubbles, I miss it like hell!!!!

Default Post Silicone...

Well, one thing I've been wanting to do is just a total tear-apart of all units and put them back together with a bit more silence in mind. Silicone on all rubbing/vibrating case bits, rubber bands as washer-bumpers, and trying out the mousepad trick on the noisier hard-drives/CD/DVD units.

Oh, that and figuring out just what the hell is wrong with my son's computer Boomer....for some reason it will only boot while lying on it's side and it occasional locks-up, but only when upright?!?!?
