Default Post New Athlon XP 2100 is crashing Windows...HELP!

MY new Athlon XP 2100 came in the mail today. Soon as windows boots it restarts. Help.
Windows XP
ASUS A7V133 (with the updated BIOS that has support for thr XP series)
Radeon 8500
898 mb ram
SB Audigy
~
Im using a "Cooler Master" brand fan. All I know is the guy at the computer store told me it was designed for the XP's and should work fine.
I need some ideas 0.o

Ok well now. After taking the FSB setting in my BIOS from 133 to 130 it worked, but now its running at 1.69ghz and not 1.736.
Also, i thought it ran at a 266fsb...oh well. At least its working now.

266mhz is the ddr rate and is not the actual measurement in megahertz. 133 is accurate, but you need a better fan.

and never listen to a computer parts salesman, most of the time they either don't know what they are talking about or don't care how much they have to lie to get you to buy something.

my coolermaster fan works great but only after the arctic silver, cleaning and oiling. even still i'm getting temps as high as 57C.

Thank you very much ^0^ I think my temp was around 58C when I booted up. Ill look into a better fan.

Oh, btw, heres my FFXI benchmark from before/after upgrade. (Had a 1ghz thunderbird before)

1ghz-FFXI
2857 Points
Athlon XP 2100-
4048 Points

Thought that was nifty

58c is pushing it... if it was a cold boot you could be hitting close to 70c... if it was a warm boot 58c idle is still too high, you'd hit 63c easy when doing anything that involves the processor.

Example - they put $10 cooler on 2200+ to make price lower.
Look for Thermaltake Volcano 7+ or Volcano 9 cooler, it is great and not so expensive.

Wow, that is one hot CPU.

I'd ice the bastid with a purty HSF. Make sure there is airflow in your case! Open it up and see if there are cables littered all about it like some disemboweled electronics experiment, make sure you have AT LEAST one fan taking in air, and one blowing out.

I have the same processor (AMD Athlon XP 2100+). I'm using the Volcanoe 7+ heatsink/fan. It works beutifully! I've had the computer on all day long and after an intense game of Unreal Tournament 2003 the temp is 42 degrees celcius. So yea...your CPU is probably way too hot.
Check out my heatsink/fan http://www.thermaltake.com/products/heatsink/v7plus.htm
One more thing is I have the fan set to normal, I could get it much cooler by putting it higher.

I am very satisfied with my Volcano 7+ too, it runs at 35 C when browsing and listening to music and never goes over 52 C (no case fans), fan running at 3000 RPM.

$10 cooler with the 2200+ only in your dreams.

Running with the stock cooler in my system and 2 case fans my cpu will run at 35-40c idle depending on what the temperature is inside the room.

I am telling you that they sell $12 cooler Spire I_don't_know_which with any XP. No Volcano 7 or something, just that. And then someone comes to the shop: "My comp is overheating!"
They say to him: "Probably isn't the cooler, it is rated for XP 2200+!" (and he bought 1800+ for example).
