exclamation Help me with SATA/IDE problem

I am running the setup in my sig.

Problem is that my pc wont see the 80gb Maxtor HD on IDE1 (no matter how I configure it - master, slave, etc). This was my boot drive before I upgraded. It still has all the old data on it. I've gone into Disk Management and scanned - no luck. It isn't showing up in the BIOS either.

I'm thinking that it has something to do with the SATA raid array being the boot disc, and perhaps a conflict existing with the MBR on the Maxtor disc.

I get the 30gb HD fine. It's just a basic disc, run on IDE 1 as a slave.

And I'm having no problems with the 2 DVD's on IDE2

I would really like to be able to get into that 80gb drive

Thanks
The Dog

See if you can remove the second drive from your IDE2 channel and install the drive there, just to see if the Bios sees it. If so, you have a bad cable, IDE connector, or IDE channel.

Here's another suggestion: Put both HDs on IDE2 and move the DVD devices to IDE1. I had to do that with my previous motherboard to get things to work.

Many in the have lots of problems with Asus A8N SLI+Maxtor. Use search if you don't have time to read all. I've been watching that page actively.

Thanks so much for the help. As soon as I get some sreious spare time, I'll do the IDE swap. If no joy there, I'll move on to plan B.

(not that I have one yet )

PS Finally - triple figures for my post count. only another 899 posts to go!
