Major slowdown in 3DS MAX 5...

I've upgraded my system and have noticed that 3D Studio's performing rather BAD! Set to DirectX drivers makes it almost unusable, and OpenGL performs slugish...

Rendering's fine, but moving (or modifying) objects in Viewports makes me wanna put a bullet through my head!

P4 Northwood 1.80A @ 2.38GHz
ASUS P4B533-E
512 Megs of PC2100 DDR (Samsung)
Radeon 8500, 64 (PlutoniumXP 8.1 (.6166))
WinXP

Any thoughts on this one?

have you experimented with various driver sets?

Just with .6166 (pXP) and .6193 = same thing

(I don't want to go any lower driver ver.).

...even tried Software Z-buffer and it worked better than D3D...

My old PIII and GeForce2 GTS worked better under 3DS..
