Default Post i am about to buy a 9000pro 128mb

i was reading about how the OEM card has no heatsink/fan... is this also true for the retail built by ati card? i dont want to get in a flame war about how the 8500 is better... cause i have a good reason for getting the 9000.... i currently have a 7500... and i think that since the 9000 pro 128mb card has some of the same technology as the 9700 Pro that it will be better in DX9.... thats only my opinion, but i want a card that will be able to last about 1 1/2 years.... and not pay 299.00-399.99

so if anyone could answer my question i would appreciate it...as i am about to go get it in like 1 hour! thanks

I have seen 9000's without fans, but never without a heatsink. Thats all I know.

I'd just like to point out that the 9000 does not support direct x 9. http://mirror.ati.com/products/pc/ra...pro/index.html

I don't want to start flame war - but with same drivers and DirectX 9 games, 8500 will outpreform 9000 (because they will both emulate DX9 features). 9000 is made to be cheap, just smaller version of 8500 chip with less heat and only one texture unit.

hey i respect that...i wasnt trying to start a flame war... and i read about the 8500 being better than the 9000, but i still got the 9000.. i got the 9000 Pro128mb and i believe that its a major improvement over the 750064mb... now i would have went out on a limb maybe and gotten the 9700, but i didnt have 399.99 but the 150.00 pricetag on the 9000 Pro was reasonable! thanks for the input!

the 9000 is a good card, and a good price.

the PRO BBA has a FAN, Non-Pro's don't have fans.

Also, 9000 VS and PS is better than 8500's VS and PS, and 9000 has the video de-blocking from the 9700, so it isn't so bad.

I haven't said it is bad. It is OK for it's price, good mid-end card (Pro).

one thing i have noticed is that it runs extremely nicely with Battlefield 1942....before i had to have all the grafx settings at lowest settings and 800x600 and i still got major lag... so once the 9000 was in i set it back to 1024x768 and grafx to max and it still was doing nicely!
