problems with CD drives. not registering me inserting diff CDs
Okay so I just installed a new PSU(and so far lovin it) and afterwards I popped in some CDs on my computer. Autorun didnt work which was great because I HATE AUTORUN!!! So anyway I was happy about that. I played Halo for a bit and then opened iTunes to move a new CD i got onto my ipod. I popped in the CD and nothing happened. This was very odd, so I go to My Computer and it says that I still have the Halo CD inserted. I pop the CD out and look to see if its Halo. Its not...its VNV Nation which im trying to rip. So I put it back in...nothing. Still no good.
I tried the other CD drive, thinking that I fried it...nope that ones down too. wtf?!?!?!!? so I restart thinking that its a one time glitch. When I reboot it shows VNV Nation in (WHEW!) So I rip it and then pop in NFSU2 to play...but no autorun. AND IT WONT SHOW UP IN MY COMPUTER! I can open the CD and see the contents, but it wont update the CD thing there!!!! This is really annoying. For games, this isnt a big deal since I use Radlinks anyway and I dont want it to autorun...but for music, this is important...plus things like this screwing up make me worry ALOT! so whats the deal? I changed the ATA cable and figured it must just be a bad cable, so I went back to the old one. Its still the same! I checked to see if I bent anything in the reshuffle, but nope thats not it either. Is it a possible power problem?? as I said, the drives seem to read everything fine, they just dont update anymore when I pop a new CD in. I dun get it. Im gunna try burning a CD and see if that works or not, just to double check. Oh yeah, I even deleted the CD drives from the device manager and then restarted to reinstall them. No good.

I have this same problem as well, and I think it's a registry issue. Normally when I rip anything the program scans the drive anyway. It's nothing serious, and I think you'll need to turn auto-run back on.

how would you suggest I fix the registry issue?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Cdrom\Autorun should be set to "1". If it's not - set it to that and reboot. Also, check Group Policy (start-run-gpedit.msc) in Local computer Policy-Computer Configuration-Administrative Templates-System-Turn Off Autoplay, and make sure it's set to "disabled".
If you want to prevent just autorun, but you want the CD label to be refreshed on the insert, then your registry key (above) should be set to "1" and your group policy (above) should be set to "Enabled" for "CD-ROM Drives". You may have to set it back and forth sometimes, for the thing to work. SO if it's already set to what you want it to be set to - change the values to the opposite, reboot and then change them back.

okay fixed the problem.
appearently it was the harddrive cable that was going bad. Why that would affect the CD drives, I have NOOOOOO idea, but there you have it.
