19" LCD, is this good?
LG Flatron L1930SQ
Any word about this 19" 12ms LCD screen? ![]() I could get it with quite "cheap" price. I'm not sure should I get it or save a bit more money for 8ms BenQ 19" LCD. I use my computer for gaming and desktop hardcore use

Well, if you're gaming I'd highly recommend that you use a CRT monitor. I used to use a 19" Viewsonic LCD and I must say, beautiful monitor for anything BUT gaming.
Ghosting is something that really bugs me, and LCD monitors always ghost during gaming. Depending upon what types of games you play, that's really going to effect how you play. Especially FPS's. Eventually, I gave up on what I spent 600 bucks on, because I was in what I like to call "Gamer denial" (where you buy something and you try and convince yourself it's good ) and I had to switch back to CRT. I must say, I couldn't have it any other way. If you're going to buy a new monitor look for an NEC or Viewsonic CRTs, they're top notch.

Ive been thinging of getting an 19" LCD for a while now and I would not go for something over 12ms. My friend has a 12ms 17" and it looks awesome. There is no ghosting and the picture quality is great. Im just not sure if the money is worth the upgrade over my flat screen 17" ctr. I will probably end up getting a LCD in the fall.

If I'd go with CRT, I'd get 21" and that would be expensive. I wouldn't go any lower than that now that I have 21" nokia already, but with tft I could go with 19". Gf would say go if I'd get tft because she'd love to see more space on my computer table and love the look, so it would make things go much smoother.
I need to wait for NECs 19" 8ms tft or something like that it seems, any more opinions?--- I feel that "Desktop denial" is happening with my logitech mx1000, fine with the games but quite heavy to do many hours of desktopwork with 1600x1200.

Looks good by the numbers...
Native resolution of 1280x1024 (won't look very good at any other resolution) is a tad low for that screen size (but it easy on the eyes and gaming at that resolution fits many mid/high level video cards well), and the contrast ratio of 400:1 probably means it may have a hard time reproducing a true black backround. Those are the drawbacks I see with it - but it probably doesn't cost a fortune either, and for screen real estate the equal of a 20-21" CRT. I can't comment on the gaming/movement issues firsthand - I would browse the web for customer opinions of this display for that, but with a 12ms response time it should handle gaming well and you probably will not notice any ghosting on video (DVD movies and such). Several folks here game on some larger Dells (21") with a 12ms response time (which should make ghosting issues more apparent - the bigger screen) and enjoy it. Finally, LCD's excel for business use and text display - at their native resolution, far outshining CRTs. Again though, for your desktop work at 1600x1200, it'll look bad. Nearly any CRT that is rated to do 1600x1200 res will look better than the LG1930SQ because of its 1280x1024 native resolution.

Thanks for great answer, which is better, 400:1 or 500:1 for example as for contrast ratio?

I have the Hyundai ImageQuest L90D+ LCD 19inch and 8ms refresh, expensive yes but well worth it and I have to say what ghosting? I have played and finished Half Life 2 on it and it was far better than my Iiyama Vision Master 454 19inch CRT which ran 1280x1024 at 120Hz. I would recommend getting a quality cable though and myself do not use the DVI as the 60Hz refresh on it makes me feel sick after half an hour but the old type cable at 75Hz is absolutley fine and just as sharp as DVI with a quality cable. The supplied cables are a bit thin and the difference is very noticeable with the 2 interfaces but with a good cable on the standard interface I can see no noticeable difference apart from making me feel ill.
It was recently reviewed at Tomshardware.com Hope this helps. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/lcd19.html for the Hyundai Imagequest L90D+ Steve |

I own a Dell 1704fps ultrasharp and I also say what ghosting ? the ghosting issues are so overplayed that was the issue about year and half ago but not anymore, but just letting you know that you will need to add another 6600gt to that sli beacuse the 19in will have a very high native resolution and will require a lot of power from the video card. Anothe great thing about LCD is you no longer have to deal with refresh rates at all.

I have been starting to get seriously interested on Viewsonic 255f 22" CRT
![]() Price is usually around 650€(euros), but I could get RMA'd sample with 399€ and one which has been in use for one year with 170€<(price will go a bit up I think because it's public sale auction). Does that look good? I have now Nokia 21" 1600x1200 75hz(I don't like it because it's 7 years old, weights around 40kg, eats much space from the desk and quality is crappy because of the age I think) and that can do 1600x1200 99hz.

Hi all!
I purchased that LG Flatron L1930SQ yesterday. I have 30 days time to test it before I have to decide if I going to keep it I have had 2 different LCD monitors before this in test use, so my opinions are based on experiences gained during using those. (1st. was some 20" DELL Ultrasharp and second was Hyundai Tiburon HL900 or was it HL1900... ) First impressions were good. Monitor looked pretty nice, although buttons are placed in a bit tricky location. I powered up the monitor and noticed OK picture. Then I started gaming... After 10 minutes something started to disturb me. In the beginning I couldn’t define what the annoying feature was but after a while it cleared. There was some kind of grid in the screen that appeared when I waved my head or when pictured moved fast. I'm not sure yet if is this some setting problem or is it characteristic for the product. Finally I played some movie to see how it behaves with video. Same grid was shown but in this kind of use it did not disturb me so much. Shades of gray and black are beautiful compared to former screens. Also other colors seemed to be nice. If that grid is a feature, I will dump this monitor but if I can clear it out by some driver update or thing like that, I guess that I'm going to keep this one. |

Nice CRT (an aperture grille model - Trinitron or Diamondtron (Sony or Mitsubishi) tube which will have visible wires in it - but can be ignored over time), excellent bandwidth for sharp focus and should have very nice color because of the tube type.
I would also look at the the Samsung Syncmaster 1100DF for about $100.00 less (US$) that has the same bandwidth figure, and a tighter dot pitch which should make it look at bit crisper at the higher resolutions. To get a LCD type monitor that will do 1600x1200 native resolution it will cost you about $300.00 more at a minimum, and then those units do not have the fastest response times (for gaming and video) - those will cost much more even than that. Ghosting is overrated. I have a 25ms LCD, and the only place i ever notice any ghosting is in firefox
