New power supply...
Okay, I just more or less destroyed my PSU (a TT 480 purepower) and I was thinking of getting something better...
So here are my choices chosen from this site: http://www.ldlc.ch/cat/140074.html Not much choise I know but my only choice. So I was looking at these PSUs... They seem nice and all 8if eve I've got a p4800-e deluxe so it's a 478 platform.) Can you guys please suggest a good PSu from the site? Thx... |

If I had to choose between the brands that are listed I would have to go with Antec. My choice would be this Antec Neopower 480W,it's modular,is setup for BTX and I believe it has dual 12v rails.I do not know what pricerange you looking for but of those brands I would likely stick with Antec.

ya but I need somethign which is sorta silent... Cuz my last PSU was sorta loud and that was really annoying
![]() But anywys, that one sseems nice... The bluestorm from fortron looked nice with the new simple stuff for LG755 system but I don't know if it's backwards compatible...

http://www.ldlc.ch/fiche/PB00022566.html Zalman are a name in quietness, if not in power supplies - but is this 400W unit enough .. I have a feeling tomshardware reviewed this one
http://www.ldlc.ch/fiche/PB00025571.html - Appears to be another low noise effort http://www.ldlc.ch/fiche/PB00021879.html - And the "noisetaker" from Enermax - looks like this is as high as the noistaker goes, but is it really quiet http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20030609/index.html 13 PSU's compared Including the Zalman - the 15A rating at 12v is low for a well tuned 400W though! http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20040122/index.html - Another test of 15 http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20021021/index.html - And an older test of 21 |

I would choose the antec from the site you provided. Enermax does make a 485w and a 600w noisetaker. I had one in my system and it was really cool. The noisetaker series enermax PSUs will keep the fan going for about 30 seconds after the system has shut down to help cool down the PSU and the computer

how'd you destroy your PSU? are you the person that was planning on changing the fans or something?

Another thing, if you have a low noise, thermo-fan PSU, be sure to help it out with some low noise case fans (some PSU's even have 12v fan connectors which follow the PSU fan control).
If you expect the PSU to do all the extraction, then it will be running hotter and louder than if you help it with an intake and extract fan pair. |

-Zalman has nice and quiet PSU but it is a little WEAK in Maximum power for today standards(400W Maximum)
I would advice a Antec 480W or 550W (or OCZ f you can find one) Last edited by Vasot; Mar 1, 2005 at 05:19 PM. |

well my budget isn't huge but this is what i've come up with as choices...
ATX 2.0 (it's compatible with older mobos like mine right?) http://www.ldlc.ch/fiche/PB00026448.html An antec... http://www.ldlc.ch/fiche/PB00016158.html This one seems sorta cool... http://www.ldlc.ch/fiche/PB00025991.html A high quality company: http://www.ldlc.ch/fiche/PB00025847.html And the zalman but not that that powerful. The thing is the fortron is nice cuz it's sleeved and ATX thingy 2 and all but I dunno if it's woth it... And 500 watts and cheaper than the other...?

Out of the PSU's on that page within your price range, that is the one I would get. It is a very nice PSU, high quality. Will handle most any system.

It is a quality PSU... and had done well in all reviews I have seen. What are the system specs of the machine it will be running in?

Well it's not a killer system but I'm soon gonna be upgradin to more hardcore stuff so I wnt some power...
ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe 3 GHZ Northwood oced to 3.3 2048 Ram 1:1 (so oced 10%) 200giga 7200 RPM HD drive 1 DVD reader x16 1 DVD writer x4 3 120mm Fans with LEDs 2 80mm Fans with LEDs 1 Neon 3 Lazer LEDs 9800 Pro with VGA Silencer rev. 3 Audigy 2 Don't think I'm missing anything. It's not extremely high end but I'm thinking of getting a new AGP vid card soon. Waiting for something apart from the X850XTs and 6800ultras... So waiting and waiting.

Well the results aren't here to back up your word BMX...
My voltages are way lower! 11.7ish for 12 instead of 11.9ish 3.2ish instead of 3.3+ always CPU core volatage fluctates more 4.9ish isntead of 5+ always!!! PS: Those are IDLE voltages... The good thing is that under load they don't change an iota but still... I'm running prime 95. Already been 1 hour and it's fine Could it just be that the mobo sensor isn't too good?

Sandok - don't take much notice of the mb voltage readings (or temps for that matter) they're out by up to 10%.
Also +/- 5% of the rated voltage is within the ATX specifications. so :- 12V - 5% (.6V) = 11.4V Minimum 5V - 5% (.25V) = 4.75V Minimum 3.3V - 5% (0.165V) = 3.135V Minimum As you can see if your readings are anywhere near they are within ATX specs. You're better off measuring voltages under load with a decent Multimeter to gain a true picture of your PSU rails. |

12.01 5.01 3.31 pretty much always. +/- 0.02v My mobo reads: 11.86 4.92 3.17 :-/ So multimeter is only way to check- I completely ignore mobo readings. If you don't have one, a multimeter is like 10 bucks.

I know it's well in the specs but the voltages dropped from what I had before and that ain't cool. But the temps did drop and that IS cool
![]() Anyways, Im gonna borrow, find or buy a multimeter and check the volts... Will need your help for that so I'll be in touch when I get my multimeter
