Default Post Laptop, PDA, TabletPC or car? Which to get

I'm thinking about getting a new laptop, however I don't want to break the bank on it, I'm just looking for something I can surf the net, take notes and do word procesing on. $1500 or less, preferably less.
Also I was considering getting a PDA, I know on the newer ones you can take notes and do shit like that, but I'm not sure that's going to be the best bet, I need something I can take to the library and do reasearch with and write papers and so forth. Any sugestions?
Should I just wait a few months and get a LindowsOS Tablet PC? Are there any cheap tabletPC's out there yet, I haven't found any yet myself.
Thanks!

Edit: Oh yeah if I do get a Laptop, I don't get a car. I've been looking into this cool 1979 Volvo 244 with a converse enginiering Ford 5.0 conversion.

I went over to newegg, the new setup is great, but I digress. I saw the Desknote laptops that you assemble yourself , anyone know anything at all bout these things? looks like it might have potential, but I'm not going to be the first chump to buy one, I don't have that kind of money to waste.

Go with a nice laptop from Dell, their products are solid, and for under 1500 bucks you can still get something that will play games pretty decent...

But if it's between that and a car...go car!
