Thoughts on new CPU
I was thinking if it is worth it to switch from a p4 3.2 to a A64 2800+, 3000+ or 3200+.
The mobo is cheap, only 75$, but the processors range from 109-189. So, idk if I should make the switch, and if so which one to pick. I guess if I do I can make a guest pc .TIA |

I wouldn't waste your money. Wait till next fall when the dual core chips are out and other tech is out. You are not going to see an improvemnet (maybe even a loss). Why would you want to get rid of p4 3.2ghz? that is pretty top of the line.

Thanks for the fast reply. It's just that I heard a A64 with xp64 would be a nice gain over what I have now. I can wait till fall
, for the new chips.

It will be a bit of a gain, but not worth the money since the 3.2 is still a great cpu.

The only real 'advantage' in going to the A64 would be the ability to use Windows x64. Other than that, in actual use you probably wouldn't be able to 'see' any real difference between the two.

AMD is a bit faster in games but intel seem to faster everything else
Your probubly better of selling what you have and buying a Socket 775 and one of the the new 6XX cpu's with 2 MB cache Or getting a 3500+ or better 939 setup (over clocked or not) and if your doing that it's time to jump on the pci express bandwagon Quote:

stick w/your p4. you won't see an improvement over anything if you switch to AMD unless you get at least a 3500 like neon said. Wait at least 6 months before you change anything out.
