Ok, I just got the SAMSUNG SyncMaster 990DF-Black 19" DynaFlat CRT Monitor -Retail and it has a black spec on the inside of the glass, like a spec of dust or something like that, no its not a dead pixel, because when I turn the monitor completely off I can shine a flashlight at the spot and it is still there. What should I do?
The spec is really really small and hardly noticable, but my eye goes to it..lol, ive only had the monitor for 4 days, other than that the monitor is perfect and clear, maybe a small magnet can get it out or drag it ot the side? Ive Emailed www.newegg.com (the place I ordered from) and I hope to be getting a response. I also have a 3 year warranty. But I need help on this matter guys, so thanks for reading!

You could try speaking to a rep if can. might get a faster response
![]() Anyways see what Newegg says. They may replace it. If they're willing to do so, then it's up to you whether you want to send it back and spend the few dys without it to get the new one OR keep the one you have now and try to ignore the speck ![]() Btw, how do u like the monitor so far? Is it nice for regular viewing and gaming (if u game)? I just bought the 1100DF Black. Should get here today

Call Newegg. Speak to a rep. Explain your problem and tell them you will like to return it and have it replaced. Also mention that you no longer have the original box. They should tell you what you can do. Good luck!

I could be wrong on this to dont take it as gospel.
The black speck is likely to be a part of the phosporous layer on the inside of the tube which is missing. Worst case, the tube itself could be damaged. If that is the case, then this monitor has a high risk of failure and possibly damage to you - CRT tubes have a vacuum inside. While its unlikely that anything will happen, use this to your advantage if they start arguing that the monitor does not need swapped out. If they still dont budge, go direct to the manufacturer. Most monitor manu's have good, on-site warranties. |

....well, when im looking at a really really clear screen, and there are dots on it, it is really annoying, thats like saying if you bought a 3,000$ plasma tv with a supposed perfect picture and it had 10 dead pixels...sorry, I cant go that..I am returning it, I payed 200$ for the new samsung, and these problems should never arise in a CRT to begin with.

Yes,
If Newegg doesn't take care of replacing the monitor, get in touch with Samsung. Either way, I think you should do all you can to get a warranty replacement.

There will always be a handful of duds, reguardless of what any company does, they can only try to limit the amount of duds best as possible.. they will never be able to make it 0.
Sometimes, and rarely do people get ahold of the duds as they should have been clearly inspected first before being assembled. But apparently either, the scanning lazer was not able to pick it up at the time, or the actually personel responcible wasn't paying close enough attention. In any case, i'd have to say your chances of receiveing a dud is 1/25 maybe 100 monitors from various companies..

Being a brand new monitor, if you take the back off (open it up) you would likely be voiding the warranty - really. Also, if the imperfection in the screen is part of the picture tube (CRT) glass or a phosphor defect, no amount of blowing it out is going to help.
Please, for your protection and your warranty, do not open it up.

The first dot is in the middle of the screen, the second, is like near the screen.

With Newegg, I don't know how long it will take - depends on whether they need you to ship the old one back first...
If your contact at newegg doesn't go well, here is the page to access for contact with Samsung directly - scroll to just past the middle of the page for the Monitor phone numbers and so forth. http://product.samsung.com/cgi-bin/n...eral.jsp?eUser

Going back to your original suggestion of a magnet, I have no actual knowledge as to whether this would do anything, but perhaps using a balloon, rubbing it on the screen to generate static and then pull it to the side, that is of course if it is dust, i think a piece of wool would have the same effect.
Just a suggestion that i'd try in your position, can't see how it'd do any harm. |

Ok, I got ahold of Newegg....it was a foreign idiot....sorry for my termanology, she insisted on it being dead pixels, so I called Samsung, and they said, sure thing you can replace it, and I was like "HELL YES" lol, now I have the reference number..so I can get it replaced whenever I like, but first im gonna try the ballon trick, man you are smart for thinking of that!...I wonder if it will work..hmm..

i can only think that highlight was never ment to be a "ON ALL THE TIME" feature. But i don't think it should reset within to short a time period.
I can't say much of it as i've many samsung monitors that i rarely every use highlight at all.
