help needed to upgrade

my system consists of a asus a7v8x mobo an xp athlon 2400 an ati9700pro aiw a cdrw and a dvdrw + 2 hard drives by maxtor 120 and 180 gb

my system was made about 2 years ago.

i was thinking of upgrading my system partly because i dont want to throw away my ati graphic card(i love her) so a new mobo must have an agp slot

what mobo would be ideal and what procesor do you recomend so i can get the maximum from my system
i point out that i use my system for recording downloading mp3 and converting vhs videos to vcds or dvds and fotos

thanks

Hmmm, you might want to go with a nice Intel setup since u don't game. Intels are better for multitasking than AMDs, or so I've heard. I can't really recommend anything since I'm not an Intel Fan, but I'm sure the others will be happy to help. Good luck

System Specs

I recommend picking AMD 64 3000+ (or faster, depending on your budget) + MoBo with AGP slot. You will be able to find NF3-based Socket 939 board that has AGP. However, I'm not sure about NF4-based AGP motherboards; AFAIK, there are no any. There are even some VIA K8T800 Pro motherboards that support AGP and 939.
Sorry, but I can't recommend a specific model or brand, since I haven't had experience with any of them.

the prices are very interesting for the 3200 64bit and the funny thing is that i thought i could not find a mobo 939 based and there are few of them around by msi and asus

anyway i get few more opinions and i will shoot

the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum is a pretty nice, though it does have a few problems that need to be worked out. Been using it for a few mths now and it seems pretty stable, although i haven't pushed it yet.

Here's a review of some of the 939 boards out: http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2128

Hope it helps

i would second the call for the A64 3000+, with a solid nForce 3 AGP mobo

but I am an AMD fan, I do hear that Intels are better for media work and can preserve your browsing experience while converting files etc. as long as hyou get a hyper-threading enables CPU

sorry, cant really give advice on intels
