I was thinking of getting two 36 gig raptors and raid-0 them. But after doing some research, it looks like I won't see much of a performance gain. What’s the deal? Would I just be better off saving some cash and getting one raptor?
Thanks Andy AMD 3200+ XP 1gig 3200 ram asus A7N8X-E Deluxe |

Raptors
IMHO, raptors are a waste of money. When you consider that the storage v peformance v price. You may see that Raptor'll might fall in near the bottom of charts due to the less density of the platter. Say one platter can hold 15 gb and the other platter can hold 40. 15gb runs at 10,000 RPM and the 40gb runs at 7200 RPM, you could see why this would be a factor into determining the factor of waste and gain. While I could see a point in having one Raptor, but as far stripping them is just silly. If you want to have one, you got my support and if you're gonna strip them and I'll just laugh my ass off.
Just don't run them as RAID 0 |

Nah don't bother, I've just got rid of two 36 gig raptors for a 76 gig raptor and the speed diff is minimal to say the least. Also the 300 gig dmax 10's with 16meg buffer are supposed to be almost as quick as my raptor. Basically they're overpriced and over rated nowadays.

Freedom is a feature.

What do you want to use Raptor for? BTW, I have a friend whose Raptor died a year or two after he bought it. It seems a lot, however this drive has 5 year warranty.
