computer keeps shutting off!!!

ok!! my power supply worked great up til now! its a couple years old, but i dont think thats the problem....i tihnk

anyways, its a antec true blue or whatever 430 power supply. sometimes when i touch my computer just the slightest bit, itll shut down on me. and sometimes itll just do it on its own randomly, but thats usually when im playing a game like world of warcraft or gunbound or CS source. so...i figured out not too long ago that when i just touch the power supply cable( the thing you plug into your power supply that goes into the outlet in the wall... =/ ) while the computer is on( or even when its off), youll get this static electricity sound and the computer will just shut off.

everytime my computer crashes, i had to try various things to try to get it to turn on again. when i press the on button, it wouldnt turn on until i unplugged and replugged the cable a few times. are there different power supply cables for different power supplies? maybe i switched mine up some how....i tried replacing this cable with my mom's, but then her power supply cable was too small and fit into my power supply very loosely =/

hmmmm.....i just noticed this:
it says "10A-125V" on top of the power supply cable, the end that is connected to the power supply.
my power supply says "AC Input: 115V/10A, ....." could this be the reason why????

This is not the problem, but it sounds like something has come loose at the back of the PSU...Every PSU I have ever used had the same cable configuration that goes into the back of it....I would see if you can find another cable that fits...it sounds like its not seating all the way into the PSU, that would explain the crackling like Static

As RyderOCZ has suggested I would first try a new/different power cable. Whatever you do, btw, don't switch the computers power supply from 115V to 220V. The North American standard is now 115v (sometimes it will say 110v), while the European standard is 220v. Again, don't switch it.

When you do try a new cable I would suggest not pushing it right back up against anything. The cable will bend, and put uncesessary stresses on not only the cable itself, but the PSU can get damaged from stresses put on it's power connector too.

If that doesn't help you out, well, then at this point I would start seeing about trying a different PSU. Best thing would be to take it into your local dealer/repair shop and test out a different PSU. If it still occurs while in their shop then you know to look elsewhere for the problem. Some places will let you test this out, which is great since it won't cost you anything to do so.

Sounds like a power related issue because of that "static" sound. Have you checked your voltages to see if they're moving alot? That would give you an indication of a failing power supply.

Try running your PC without "extra" components like CD-ROM(s)/DVDs or anything that would draw power that isn't crucial and see if it stays stable for a while. Also make sure that your power bar or UPS isin't fubar if you're using any.
