Cable Modem
I'm going to get AT&T Broadband next week ( I've had It with dial-up ) I've decided to buy my own modem. Here Is a list of the modems that I can use.
http://www.boomspeed.com/damon559/Modems.JPG Which modem should I purchase on the list, I don't want to buy a piece of crap. Does anyone know of some good websites to purchase a modem, all of the retail stores here sell them at the same price as the cable company. $100.00 Thanks

Yes, my road runner service came with a surfboard 4200 modem. I'm very satisfied with it and would have to recommend it to you.

I agree the motorola surfboards are first class. ive had several different makes over the years, and the best I had was the 4100.

I'd go with the SB4100 if it's in your price range... I've had a couple of surfboards, and each version is better than the last... only have to power-cycle my SB4100 every couple of weeks or so.

Go for the Surfboard, had one for 2 years, fine piece of Tech! Hey we could start a SB fan club..lol
included page from configs for SB don't know if you can make this out so cut & pasted this.. The SURFboard cable modem can be used as a gateway to the Internet by a maximum of 32 users on a Local Area Network (LAN). When the Cable Modem is disconnected from the Internet, users on the LAN can be dynamically assigned IP Addresses by the Cable Modem DHCP Server. These addresses are assigned from an address pool which begins with 192.168.100.11 and ends with 192.168.100.42. Statically assigned IP addresses for other devices on the LAN should be chosen from outside of this range. Shame my isp don't allow this function to work... doh
