guys... he said he wanted a new computer. And that processor costs a friggin $700! so i think you should just shop around and get the best for the cheapest. You can get an Athlon XP 2100+ for $105 at www.newegg.com and try www.buyaib.com for other parts.

Personally I thing you should go a little higher with the CPU, but I don't know all of the components that you need to buy.

try this out (assuming you already have a case, monitor, and case fans):
Athlon XP 2400+ = $174 ASUS A7N8X-DX (AGP 8X, 6-Channel Audio, Dual-Channel DDR400 Support, USB 2.0, IEEE 1394, Dual LAN) = $140 Samsung 512mb PC3200 DDR = $153 Vocano 7+ = $25 Enermax EG45P 400W PSU = $82 Seagate Barracuda IV 7200RPM 80GB HD = $100 AIW Radeon 9700 Pro VI/VO DVI = $401 total = $1075 note: to save about $100, you could just go with a regular 9700 Pro, as you probably don't need (or will use) the AIW's capabuilities. |

MrUrt is spot on with his spec, go for something along the lines he posted. although I might go for a western digital hard drive, then again the JB SEs I love cost more than his selection.

![]() MrUrt, nice idea, really. Maybe you could also consider MSI KT4 Ultra-BFISR, it is a nice mainboard.

Code:
ChiefTec SX1040 aluminum case w/ window + cold cathode, and 420 watt PSU -$104 MSI KT4VL KT400 motherboard -$74 AMD Athlon XP 2000+ retail -$86 Corsair 512 PC2700H XMS CAS2 -$162 Powercolor ATI Radeon 9700 Pro - Retail -$320 WD 80GB 7200RPM ATA100 8MB Cache -$107 LiteON 40x12x48 CD-RW -$47 LiteON 16x DVD-ROM -$40 Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 5.1 OEM -$54 TOTAL after S&H -$994 This would make a fairly kickin rig... 2000+ is an AGOIA core (good for overclocking - price includes a retail HSF) After you saved some money you could look into a better HSF for overclocking. I was not sure what components you needed... Sooo, I listed everything that would be needed for building a brand new box. You could drop the sound card as the motherboard already has good 5.1 sound built in. You could also drop the window, and the cold cathode, and save another 25 dollars there. Let us know what you are looking for! Good Luck! |
