Viewsonic VP191b (new one is 191b-2 as it's an 8ms panel). It's the bigger brother to my 171b-2, and since this one rocks, that'd be my top choice in the 19" range. The things come with 2 vga, and 1 dvi connector, plus both sets of cables in the box (at least the North Am release of it). They sell for close to the listed price on the site in Canada. Viewsonic VX924 (4ms panel). This is the newest series from them, and it geared towards gamers. It has a higher brightness rating than the VP series, and a bit cheaper. Otherwise the same specs. Personally I'd choose the VP191b for 2 reasons: 1) The base on the VP series is a wide boomerang shape, and makes the monitor more stable. It's almost impossible to move it without serious force. 2) The VP191b has an 800:1 contrast ratio compared to the VX924s 500:1. Good hunting! -Tip |

I only have experience with one lcd and it is the Xerox XA7-19i, it is super nice, it has 8ms responce time 1000:1 contrast and 300nits. But if you have alot of cash i've heard alot of good things about the Dell monitors..

I have had quite a few and you cant go wrong wrong with an NEC- Mitsusishi. You NEVER have to apologize for quality.PLUS,when you go to sell it when you wanna upgrade youre not dealing with a no-name fly-by-niter thats in business today and gone tomorrow.Although I'm not saying NEC is the only quality monitor on the market. There are lots of good ones out there.I just prefer NEC or Sony.PLUS,they stand behind what thay sell,no questions asked. Both my monitors are NEC-Mitsusishi,1 20"LCD and 1 21" CRT.Never had a bit of problem with any of the NEC's I have ever had.....And as far as the fan blowing on youre PC I have a rather large fan blowing on my Zalman Reserator 1 water cooling unit on my SLi rig.It drops the temps 5-7 degrees....whatever works!

Check out a quick chart: Color Depth Setting, Number of Colors On-Screen, Best Uses 16 colors , Same number of colors, Automatically selected by standard VGA or Safe Mode bootup with Windows 9x/Me; not recommended for normal use. 256 colors, Same number of colors, Use only when software or process can't run with more colors. 16-bit, 65,536 colors, Minimum needed for fairly realistic 3D gaming or photo viewing; some graininess will be visible in colors, but some games play faster in this mode. 24-bit, 16.7 million colors, Realistic photo editing, but not as good for 3D gaming as 32-bit color. Use 32-bit setting if 24-bit setting not available. 32-bit, 16.7 million colors, Provides the same number of colors as 24-bit, but is optimized for gaming as well as for photo-editing and business programs, however this is not true 32bit color. If it were it would have 4.3 billion colors (which is CMYK color). -Tip Edit: Someone commented to me about 32bit color not being 16.7 million colors, but infact 4.3billion (rounded). This is true to a point. There are 256 possible values for each of the 3 colors in RGB (red, green, blue) which is used for 24bit color depth. Almost every monitor (LCD and CRT) are RGB monitors. As I mentioned above this is the same for 24bit and 32bit RGB values. CMYK (Cyan, Magneta, Yellow, Black), on the other hand is true 32bit color, and has 4.3 billion colors. In a lot of cases the black is more of an 'extra' color. Since 100% of the CMY colors gives you black an RGB monitor will discard the black. Almost all monitors use the RGB standard, while CMYK is used for print (pictures and so forth). Heres something to think about: in more simple, deductive terms, how can a monitor that says it can display 16.7 million colors be 'True Color' 32bit, when in 'True Color' 32bit you have 4.3 billion colors?

-Tip BTW: I'm sort of contradicting myself between the 24bit/32bit differences.. but there is more to it than what I can post in a thread such as 32bit textures (which are pictures) vs 32bit color rendering, and so on and so forth. Hell.. I'm starting to confuse myself trying to explain it, so I'm gonna back off on it as this really isn't the place to be explaining this. Just not enough space (or time). If you look around the net (such as HERE and HERE .. of note, the last link they show a pic that indicates RBG has 3 colors with 255 values for each.. which is wrong.. it's 3 colors with 0-255, for a total of 256 each) you'll be able to work it out yourself, and begin to understand the confusion.

Try laying your hands on this http://www.hyundaiq.com/pro_l90d+.asp I picked mine up for about £300uk which is pretty damned cheap for a decent LCD. No major issues with it at all. Edit: Click on the spec button for the full details |

Hyundai L90D and my personal choice: Viewsonic 191b although this monitor sells for $300 more down there. You will find both 12ms and 8ms versions of both of these monitors, so make sure to check which one you are getting before you buy it... if you buy one of them that is. -Tip |

that LCD you picked isnt worth the 400. you can get something much better for the same price.
8ms is good for gaming.

8ms is faster than 21ms. The ms is milliseconds.
A buddy of mine picked up a 16ms response monitor and he has some minor tearing showing up in WoW during spell effects. Other than that he has no troubles with ghosting, etc. Incidentally that monitor that you linked above (the 21ms response time) goes for $282.99 (USA), which converts to $371.62 (AUS). That doesn't look like a great price to me on the link that you posted, though I don't know about how prices are down under compared to the USA. -Saif |

Fastest response time is 4ms (grey-to-grey). Although VM doesn't sell it, the Viewsonic VX924 is a 4ms panel, and goes for $660 Aussie dollars.
'Course, it might sounds as if I'm being a little bias here, so here's 2 others: BenQ also makes 2 fast monitors: the FP71V+ which is a 17" monitor at 5ms, and the FP91V+ which is the 19" at 6ms. Of note: Faster IS NOT better. I personally would not buy a monitor that is faster than 8ms right now. Here's why: the only way to make them faster is to reduce the amount of colors the monitor can produce. While both of the above monitors are the fastest LCDs on the market they are not 'True Color' monitors. By that I mean they only display 16.2 million colors, and NOT 16.7 million colors (24bit/32bit color). That's why those particular monitors have serious dithering issues, however on the VX924 Viewsonic has tried to compensate for this problem... but it's still noticeable. For more info take a look at THIS article here. It can explain things better. For now stick with 8ms panels as, for the most part, these are still True Color monitors. As for the price on the Hyundai monitor.. it should go for around $700-800 AUS. Dollars. -Tip

Please note that this is a 1 day sale price and the same monitor is at Tigerdirect for US $339.99 (about AUS $447). These are big suppliers so they can get lower prices than your local dealer. -Saif |
