My fan (front) on my Tsunami Dream case is LOUD. I must either reduce the speed or disable it or i will go insane with more lost sleep.
I have tried the bios to reduce the voltage, cant do it. Tried through Asus Probe, not possible. Board: ASUS K8v Se Deluxe So my next option is to disable it all together... Thing is i got a little problem, its not just connected through a molex, its attached to the motherboard... as shown here Will it be safe to just take out those wires? Will it have and concuquences? Can i damage anything if i do it? ![]()

I would look into a different fan for that front intake. There are also some vibration dampers that you can insert between the fan and the chassis of the case to quiet things down.

The only wire you need to disconnect is the three prong connector, or the higher of the many. The others are for the front panel connectors and lights and such. If they're tied together with a twist tie then you can just cut them free.

I believe the wires at the base of the case is for the hd led, power led, reset and power buttons. The other wire u circled is simply for the motherboard to monitor the speed of the fan. The fan gets it's power from the 4 pin molex connector. Just simply remove the hd cage and u'll see where it's connected. If the case fan is too loud, then simply buy a quieter one. Besides for a case to be "properly" cooled it needs an intake fan. I doubt the 92mm fan on the window would be adequate, but it's your case...

4 pix molex... i cant see any? i removed the HD cage and theres another piece of metal in the way restricting access to where the wires are... I alsoo took the side fan off, cause it was making a grinding sound on startup, and my case is actually cooler without it...
So im confused cause i dont see and molex conneted to the actual fan, just the yellow one and the red and white interlacing ones ( probably for the leds)

Have you tried speedfan? I don't know if it works with your motherboard but it might be worth the try.

no way that thing is comming out, i got a sneek peek at the corner of the case and all i could see was a bunched up ball of wires, im guessing the molex is somewhere in the middle of that, but unless i take out the mobo, i aint getting at it. These tsunamis cases are not very nice when it come to shit like this, metal everywhere, the screws are weak...
Ill just have to live with it unless any other thoughts on how to get rid of it. I put a piece of cardboard in between the fan and the case, mabye that will help...

ARRRGGHHH just attempted the case mod from hell!
Took the front panel off, took out the HDD and CD drive, made a little compartment under my tv for it, so i can close the doors in the cabinet. But, I measured wrong and the cd drive and case wouldnt fit in. ERRR Long story short i put everything back together and im stuck back with the noisy fan. Those gadgets are good BWX. will check them out.,

That 3 pin fan connector only has 1 wire connected (for speed signalling), so even if the motherboard is capable of speed control under "Speedfan", it won't do anything as the fan is not powered from the connector.
It could be one of the high speed ones that they usually don't recommend powering directly from a 3 pin, so it must be taking pwere from a molex hookup in the bundle - where one molex is plugged inline into another, that is likely to be the fan power takeoff - the other end of what's usually an inline extension, may be empty or used for a device. NB. If you convert that fan to 7v running (from 12v to 5v hookup) you MUST disconnect the speed signalling connector, as it will no longer work, and might actually cause damage. And this was my answer to a noisy case fan - actually a surplus heatsink fan that I used in a 60mm position (all the case had!) http://www.junkroom.freeserve.co.uk/fanspeed.htm No, it's not a smart controller, it's not PWM, and it wastes the power not fed to the fan, however, the logic of it's development was simple: 1. I rejected immediately, a wirewound potentiometer - a fixed or variable resistor results in severely limited starting power to the fan. 2. I though of a link selectable collection of silicon diodes, allowing multiples of 0.6-0.7V to be dropped 3. Looked at 3 terminal regulators, didn't like the idea 4. After much kicking around, this design emerged - using the transistor as both the voltage reference and the control element, a "variable zener diode" - while the heat dissipation would compromise accuracy, absolute accuracy is not required. |
