GPU or Voltage issues
Recently I had trouble with my old PSU... at least I think I did. Seemed I kept getting a Radeon 9800XT BIOS error each time I started up. Replaced it with an Antec NeoPower 480, which I was told was pretty much the best I could buy. Things started working and I didn't get the error for a week.
So when I decided I had fixed the problem, I bought a new video card (because I'd been meaning to buy one anyway), an X850XT. It seemed to work fine for a couple days. Now I'm getting similar video card BIOS messages on boot. It's only happened once so far, but it caught my attention. I know video cards are really picky about voltages so I checked them. They seem oddly unstable, something like: VCORE - 1.63V 3.3 - 3.32V 5 - 5.1V 12 - 12.95/13.02V I thought Antec had a +/-3% guarantee or something like that. Not only are these voltages high (the 4th voltage being ~ +8.5% over), but they seem to fluxuate alot; which is completely contradictory to what I've heard about these PSUs. Ran my 9800XT for a week before I bought my new video card, didn't seem to have any problems, but I also didn't bother to check the voltages. Another thing is that I've heard the ASUS P4C-800E Deluxe mainboards don't run reliable voltages. So what could really be going wrong here? I've had these and similar problems for about the past year and I've voided my computer's warranty by installing that new PSU. So what do I do? As additional information, the PSU fan seems to be running fine and I'm running BIOS revision 1017. |
