DDR Ram? Decent quality RAM

Ok. Build a new pc. Not going with a 333 mhz chipset. I have to settle for a 266 mhz (not enough money). I'm look for 512 - 768 MB of ram for my new board. What brands are good overclockers? What brands can you change the CAS and RAS latency to fast times? I have always been dumb and purchased shitty RAM and now I wanna get some decent stuff (not top of the line).
I've heard mixed things about Samsung, is Samsung good? Mushkin sounds kinda pricy. I heard Micron is expensive. What should I get? Not looking at spending a fortune. But I also don't want to get screwed with not being able to sell this RAM on eBay in 6 months.

PS The processor will be an Athlon XP 2000 - 2100. Dunno which one yet.

I think Crucial has decent prices, and in my experience can definitely handle overclocking / aggressive timings

PC2700 is $142 for 512MB, $220 for 768MB, free shipping.

I just saw AnandTech's new price guide for mobo's and RAM is out, Kingston seems to be the cheapest "good" brand.

Well I was poking through the ads for this weekend. And then I remembered that I have a stick of 256MB PC133 Kingston. That stuff sucks. I couldn't clock it over 137 mhz. It didn't run stable at 133 with agressive timings. Maybe it was a bad stick but I couldn't overclock it for shitl. What are good sticks that overclock AND have agressive timings at the same time?

Corsair xms is very good mem for oc'ing from what I've read . On my GA-7VRXP I'm using ultra cas 2 3t 3t command t1 .. When I had it in my GA-7VAX I had it at ultra cas 2 2t 2t command 1 . I don't oc so I can't comment from personal experience on how those commands hold up when doing so . Hopefully your board allows you to lock your agp/pci so you can just oc your fsb without stressing out the rest of your rig Googlegear has pretty good prices on the xms series for the 256 & 512 sticks, better than most I've seen on pricewatch.com. Had Crucial in my P3 rig and it oc'ed to 139 fsb but it was sdram not ddr so I don't know if it carrys over.

Wait, hode up! OK, registered RAM is reliable. Unregistered is a good overclocker. So you can't overclock registered RAM well?

well...i guess it depends on the luck of the draw....mine has been up over 180 with those suicidal voltage jumpers on the a7v333 and held its own.

Corsair XMS PC2700 or 3200

The XMS PC2700 my friend has does 190FSB 2-2-2 1T Ultra timings on the same board I am using. Don't know if he is lucky or what, but I am willing to take that chance. I can't wait to get some. My PC2400 won't go over 166, but I guess I shouldn't complain since its only rated at 150. It is pretty expensive though. From what I have heard lately, stay away from OCZ, although I have had no problems with it, apparently lots of other people have.

The Crucial I mentioned earlier was PC100 I was running at 133MHz, regular timings.

Yeah if you want the best overclocking RAm, I think most would say it's Corsair XMS.
But at first you mentioned price being a factor, and Kingston seems the cheapest.
And Crucial I guess falls generally somewhere in between.

Let me only say that OCZ ram cannot get any worse than anything else out there. At speeds and CAS ratings MUCH LOWER than their claimed maximums, OCZ ram is often error prone and just faulty enough to not let you get a replacement/refund while still causing you problems. My fsb is currently at 125 on my AXP1600+, because the "PC3000" ram couldn't handle 133 reliably and I couldn't afford anything different.

corsair ram rocks, but it's kinda pricey
kingston is okay, and the price is decent too
samsung is also middle of the road on both
