this might be better to post in the technology forum. I'm sure you'll get several posts like "UHG NOT ANOTHER ONE!!" and then telling you what they think you should buy.

My suggestion? Go to Tomshardware.com and check out his LCD reviews. There are none better.

i just bought a dell 2001fp for like 560, free shipping from dell. Itt should be here in a couple hours, I'm pretty excited, as its my first LCD. This is the US, so I'm not sure about the price/availability in the UK. I was also looking at the Viewsonic VP912b. Its pretty cheap too, under $400 dollars.

All i can say is wow after using the 2001fp for a little while. It is amazing quality. Mine came in 3 days (ordered sunday, came wed). ZERO dead pixels. Went from a 17" a70f+ (not even a a71) to this 20.1". My first LCD as well. Very impressed with dell...

Any of that dreaded ghosting in fast moving games? I'm about to take the plunge myself with the 2001FP but play only FPS and racing games.

I have the 2001fp and it is an amazing monitor. Play BF2, HL2, CSS, farCry and no ghosting whatsoever. It is one of the best investments I have made to my gaming rig. One suggestion is that the monitor does look best at its native resolution of 1600x1200. Make sure you have a GFX card capable of this in 3D gaming as I can notice a big differnece in appearance say from 1024 to 1600x1200.

I think I'll be following suit and ordering a 2001FP in the next month or so. Will start searching for deals now.

It will also be my first lcd monitor. (asides from my laptops)
