Thinking about upgrading my cpu + mobo
oh my!! its that season again!!! THE UPGRADING SEASON... well hopefully
![]() well i built this pc like 2 1/2 years ago (my first pc that i actualy built which im pretty proud of myself cuz i was 13 at the time) and its a good pc :-) But im starting to realise that its getting bootleg for newer hardware and games... and ive been looking into upgrading for a while :-) because i havent upgraded my computer and i want to start on another project or just build another pc again (even though this time it will only be replacing the cpu and motherboard )This is my current setup: AMD BARTON 2500+ (32bit, 1.8ghz been overclocked to a 3200 2.2ghz for a while now) Asus A7N8X-DELUXE rev.2 1gig corsair XMS ram x800xt PE (agp )120gig hard drive well since i built the computer i gradualy upgraded the graphics, hard drive and ram... and i havent upgraded my cpu or mobo since i built this pc and i think its around time to upgrade :-) heres what i have in mind..... AMD athlon64 VENICE 3800+ (2.4ghz) (pretty expensive around 360$) Asus A8N-E Nforce4 PCI express motherboard (around 110$) So basicaly i want to get a more future proof upgrade too.. so were talking about PCI-E and a 64bit proccessor now... i have some problems here... 1. i have a AGP x800xt PE and i really really dont want to get into a hassle of selling it and than buying a brand new x800xt pe for PCI - Express because i would be loosing a good amount of cash for the same card and its more time consuming. 2. $$$$ our family is sort of in a financial crisis rite now and im trying not to waste any of my moms money so im going to go out of my own savings bank (which has like only 1000$ in it) and buy the stuff... and i am trying to get a job as soon as i get my Social Security number (long story)i am going to be selling my old cpu and mobo for around 120$ so i will save some cash on this so hopefully i will find a way to get a PCI-E graphic card without the hassle of selling it and rebuying the same one just for PCI-E. So i sent my card company a email to see if i can arrange something (which would be so awesome maybe a trade or a discount or something) becauseupgrading to another AGP board isnt that future proof since ATI and NVIDIA are slowly stopping the releases of high end AGP cards and now its all going to probably be PCI-E ANYWAYS what do u guys think about the new stuff... I have read atleast 5 reviews and they had the 64bit athlon 3800 compared to the 32bit athlon 3200 (basicaly what i got) and most of the performance gain was atleast 2X of what i have at the moment.... but also my cpu is getting a bit old and starting to chug on high end games at my graphic cards full potential... total will be around 460$ but if i sell my old cpu n mobo it will be around 320$ (if i find a way to get rid of my agp card and get a pci one for free hopefully) Thanks and sorry for the long read ![]() Evil!

Hmm it would be nice for you to be able to exchange cards. However, I doubt it's going to happen. So you might be stuck /w an AGP board. The card you have now is still one of the top of the line models. An AGP setup would still at least last you another year & half. Not to mention you'll save money to since later on AMD is going to DDR2 & and the new M2 socket.

if you're as stubborn as i am, you'll want to go PCI-E, and won't care how you get rid of your current gfx card so long as you find a buyer (
....me wants..... ).

yeah but my problem is that i like ASUS a lot and i wanted a better upgrade than just like nforce 2 to nforce 3... and thats the only asus mobo that supports nforce 4... and i want to be able to hold atleast 2 or 3 more years with this new hardware... hopefully ill find a way to sell or exchange or get a discount on a PCI-E for this AGP ;-|
anywaysss

selling i think would probably be the best option. if you can score some kind of deal w/ATI or something to do some kind of exchange to go PCI-E, that would be awesome. However, i do not see a fair trade coming in your favor if you do decided to go that route.

Hmm thinking about something. Would you be interested in the processor in my specs for a deeply discounted price?
