Hi! Need some advice-upgrading video card.

Hi! I just wanted to seek some advice for a new video card. I'm either going to pick out some versions of the X800pro or get a refurb X800XT PE. The versions that I'm having a hard time picking from is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161119

My current PC specs are Intel P4 2.4ghz,ASUS P4S553 mobo (or 355..),Geforce 4 TI 4200,512mb Kingston ram. Thats all I really remember. Yes, I also will upgrade my ram to some 1gb value select corsair. I also will need help picking out a reasonable PSU.. I've been reading a lot.. and don't really know what to get. Plus I'm not so much PC savvy.. I think I may go with one of the choices of the X800pro.. the one made by HIS may be great but has 12 pipelines compared to the Gecube that has 16, but I also think the HIS one will cool a lot more better.. so please help me.. Thank you.

Just a suggestion on PSU look into Enermax product line at newegg; Enermax gets great reviews and mine has been great. Make sure to get the latest version because they will have more amps etc in order to meet the newer power standards. Of course there are other great PSU manufacturers.

Adding another 512 ram would provide a big boast; I would suggest making sure that all your ram are from the same manufacturer and are matched so there is no compatibility issue -- I am not an expert others here can give alot better advice.........

For about the same money, the X800XL is a better card - 4 more pipelines for your video processing pleasure. It also uses the latest manufacturing process technology (.11 micron process)

Get a bigger PSU though, Enermax or OCZ - both reviewed here at DH - look here for the reviews...

Uhh..just a question.. I read a lot of reviews and it said that the Gecube and another had 16 pipelines...? Yeah,but on the HIS x800pro,the cooler looks really cool... Also Necrosis, have you ever bought anything refurb? I just fear of getting a lemon..

Yah, he was saving up for the x800xl, but money is really an issue here. I've been helping him try to get a system together for quite a while. First it was a brand spanking new system, totaling nearly 700 dollars, then a new system with a x700 for around 460 dollars, now we're down to just getting 1GB of corsair VS, a new PSU (this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817148008 ) and then whatever video card he decides on. We're trying to keep the vid card under 230 bucks though, and the x800pro isn't much worse than the x800xl.

I just wish I could find a review that pitted the x800xl against the x800pro, and the x800 against the 6800.

He's right. I've been talking to him since... April maybe? Discussing this whole matter. As he said money is an extreme issue with me right now, and want to save as much as possible. So I guess I'm just deciding to wing it and get the X800XT PE...I mean it does have a 3 year warranty, so dear god nothing goes wrong.

Double check the test setup though, if they are using a stronger processor and more ram then the differences on a slower machine will be smaller.

And since money is a prime issue, that PSU looks good for 54.00 - nice beefy 12v output.

So that review made it clear which was better between the x800xl and pro, but what about vanilla x800 v vanilla 6800? I've seen the x800 compared to other Radeons, and to the 6600 and 6600GT, and even to the 6800GT, but no 6800.
