MP3 players...?????

I'm thinking of buying an MP3 player and know NOTHIING about them other than the fact that they play music.I have never looked at anything that has an Apple nameplate on it but I hear and read that the iPOD is about the only one worth having.I'm looking at the iPOD Mini and the iPOD Shuffle.I really dont think I will need a player that holds 10,000 songs.Also,what do you do to download the music and install it into the player?The only HD's I have are the 2 74GB Raptors in each one of my rigs.Does the music have to stay on the computer once it's transfered to the player?I know these are some really basic questions but I really know NOTHING about this subject....MUCH thanks!

Most players should come with software for easy integration of your music library with the device.
And once the music is on the mp3 player you can do what you like to it on the computer.
Check out 'advancedmp3players.co.uk' for loads of cool kit and info, just don't buy them at their prices.

So after I put in on the player I can purge it from my rigs HD????And I assume there's a delete button on the player to get rid of songs I dont want anymore????The iPOD Shuffle has 512MB of memory.How many songs should I be able to get on it?

i have the old or might be the first iPod 15GB model that come with firewire, i got this one when it first came out.
then i bought an iPod mini 6GB for the older daughter, and a few months a friend who own a Mac shops gave my 2 youngest kids 2/ 1GB iPod Shuffle on their birthdays. so now we have ttl of 4 iPods in the house.
i suggest you spend a liitle bit more and get the iPod Mini. the Shuffle body is made with plastic, it doesn't look cheap or anything but its control switchs seems to break off easily, and the mini has more accessories that you might want to use it later.

install the iPod and iTunes softwares, on the installation it'll tell you to connect the iPod and you'll easily learn from there. there is an option on the Advanced setting of iTunes to "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library", if you don't want to keep music files on your drive uncheck this option.

Don't get a shuffle. They're Gucci sunglasses. Sure they do a job, but mostly just there to look good.
And there's no display either.
So long as you have the songs on another medium (cd, whatever), and aren't going to lose them for all eternity should you lose your mp3 player, then yeah, you can get rid of them on your pc.

As for the number of songs you can get on, that depends on how you compress them (if at all).
I use Cheetah to get most albums on my Rio Karma down to 25/30 Mb, so you do the math!

Personally speaking I'd get something like the XEN EMP-400 ,way sexier and better than an ipod.

If i were to buy a MP3 player i would look at the Dell DJ or the Creative Zen, they DJ does everything an ipod can and is a lot cheaper, the Zen is a tad more expensive, but can do a lot more than the ipod.

and as for headphones and if you have quite a bit of money. Shure earphones are probably the best out there.

never use any other earphones with iPods but the one that comes with them, it's just a wired earphones set. what do you want to know about it?

Sennheiser PX-100 for headphones if you don't have heaps of money to spend.
They fold up, they're not too expensive, and they got great sound quality.

Personally feel that the video playback on a device like this is mostly eye candy... but works great when bored and in a pinch like on a commuter train!

While we're on this topic... the DMP (Digital Music Player) question of the year is... which one has be best line-in encoding?

I just bought a Creative Zen Nano Plus and have found that the line-in encoding on it sucks. This was also confirmed on the Creative forums as they said it sucks too. So pretty much, it sucks. Does anyone else have any experience or insight to the best encoder on a non-HDD flash player?
