Just installed a new 550VA UPS backup
For those interested, MicroCenter presently has this UPS on sale for $34.99 plus tax (USA).
My old Belkin 650 went belly-up quite some time ago as I discovered the hard way about a week and a half ago when a breaker tripped at our place. Anyway, this one was easy to install (USB) connection and is working fine. I don't need anything that will keep a system up for 30 minutes or so....just something that will keep it on for a minute or two so that power can come back on. In our area we have a lot of very short power outtages when technicians are repairing/replacing lines in the area. This is done mostly after some bad storms which we've gotten quite often lately. Anyway, a heads up to those looking for affordable UPS systems. This one is distributed by Newpoint and its interface is like an updated Belkin. (In fact, I think the unit may be made by Belkin.) Here's a link to the product specs: http://www.newpoint.com/catalog.jspa...od=showProduct EDIT: I think this will be going back tomorrow. After using it for a few hours this evening with no trouble, I finally decided to do some online gaming and immediately got an OVERLOAD warning. I thought it was designed to Bypass the overload without shutting down. Well, right in the middle of connecting to the game, the whole shebang shutdown. I've had to move my monitor off the UPS and was able then to do a little gaming for a test. With just my computer and monitor connected, it shows an average 84% load on the UPS.
