Well nvidia is promising 30% faster speeds than the 9700 with their FX, but you can overclock a radeon by 30% by putting a voltage mod on it. I would go with the radeon because for one its availible now and when you need it to be faster its cabable of doing it.

The R9700 sounds pretty good, unless you like to pay double for a 20% speed increase. Plus you can have the 9700 NOW!!!

Its hard to say. MSRP is $500 on those FXs, and you can find 9700's around for much much less... When people say tha tyou can just OC the radeon up, think of the fact that you will also be able to overclock the FX, so its all relative... My suggestion would be that you wait until the FX comes out, because right around then ATI will have their response to the FX out, then you can choose between the FX, the ATI response, and the 9700 - all of which will be very good cards...

if you have money and want more features than the R9700 go GF-FX... I love ATi but the FX has more features than the R9700. If you really don't feel the need to boost your performance you may want to just wait until at least some details on features/performance on the next ATI card are announced.

Features aren't everything you know - if no one uses those features then they are pretty damn useless if you ask me. Personally I'm going to wait for a while, then nab myself whatever video card has the most bang for the buck in february along with an AMD hammer system (hopefully a sledgehammer, not a clawhammer, though if they are too $$$$ im obviously not going to...), and then get DoomIII and enter heaven-for-gamers...

I'm with the waiting plan. The R350 will be out within a month of the GFFX and by then 9700 Pro prices will be dirt cheap.

Why not buy a R9700Pro then sell it later on and get the next fastest card.

dmaister, sorry, but that information is incorrect. the 9700 pro has a 256 bit wide memory bus, while the geforce fx has a 128 bit wide memory bus, but that is pretty irrelevant in face of the fact that the two busses work at drastically different frequencies and use different compression schemes...
