So, today, glorious day, I finally get my 9700pro. Works like a dream (see my post on ati benchmark forum) I turn off the computer and head out to see Gangs Of New York (great movie, go see it) Come home 3 hours later, turn on the computer. After teh XP bootup screen, strange colors flash across the screen. It then goes right to the "Welcome" screen. From there it begins SPEWING out "Delayed Write Function" errors. Saying how it could not write to nearly every folder on the computer due to it being lost or misplaced, including the roots of both my drives. (C:\ and D:\) Im totally going insane over here. Im on the downstairs crap computer right now. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Did you install any registry tweaks, or nonstandard ATi drivers?

This is a lot to ask but what software do you have installed on your computer? List anything that would have to do with files, like Norton, and/or any system OS type software. It sounds like to me it's something messed up with Window's File Protection.

I have Norton Sys Works 2k3 installed... Other system software umm im trying to think...i have RegEdit installed... im not sure, but i found this on a forum via a google search, someone getting the same error when they tried to do debug something in side of windows-
Data that a filesystem previously wrote to cache is now being committed to physical media. If the write IRP to the disk driver fails repeatedly, this dialog is displayed. This leads to file and/or filesystem corruption. Ultimately, the disk driver has to satisfy its I/O IRPs by sending SRBs to the SCSI port driver. So, your driver is likely failing SRBs for SCSI write commands. If there is a true hardware error, there is nothing you can do; but consider the possibility that your driver is faulty. Failure to complete an SRB can lead to behavior like this as well: after the SRB timeout period (specified by the disk class driver) elapses, SCSIPORT will return it to the class driver as failed. As to what THAT means, i know not. Im going nuts here... -sob-...should i try and reinstall windows? or put my 8500 back in? |

No, nothing is overclocked, in fact my c[pu is underclocked since i dont have a suitable fan. (note: i just grabbed a giant room fan and stuck it right upto the computer with teh case off to keep it cool in case that was the problem, cpu is much cooler now still have errors)

Hey bro,
Is there anything else on besides Rage 3d? I have had to uninstall rage3d and reinstall after I installed new drivers with the exception of any of the Omega drivers, Did you force your refresh rate above what you would consider normal? need more information, I have never had a real problem with an ATI card unless I did something and missed a step...The bios is a place I sure would check as well, use omegas template for setting the recommended settings in the bios of your motherboard... |

Nope, i did a super clean install of everything using the guide in the driver forum. i did not change the refresh above 60hz or anything. Im going to check omegas template now, thanks. Also alot of forums im reading state that the error is due to a problem in a home/business network, which i am running a h ome network via a linksys router. However all of thsoe probles occour from inside windows, which i cannot seem to reach...

W00T!
I FIXED IT! I had my bios do a reset all settings to default. Changed a few things (set agp graphics card as default for example) bootup, windows checked both drives for consistancy, ans booted right up. i -think- the problem may have been that one thing i noticed in bios "use plug and play OS" was disabled. i turned it on after loading setup defaults. ok im off to tinker with the bios to get things back to normal (currently my agp arperture size is 32mb for example) thanks for all your suggestions and help. i love you guys

Not sorted no more. Changed a few thigns back to the way they were in bios and problem came right back. The thingsi changed were- UW>USWC mode, AGP size from 32>256, and AGP Fast Write to On. Ive got it narrowed down to the AGP Arperture size. Going to see how high i can get it without having errors. Ill post my findings.

It is a commonly held misconception that Upgrade CDs somehow lack something that is present on the full versions of the OS, and that the only way to install using an Upgrade CD is to have a previous OS already installed on the drive. Both are false. In reality, the only difference between an Upgrade CD and a Full Version CD is the fact that the Upgrade CD demands that you prove you own a previous version of the OS. And you can do this even if your HDD has been wiped clean. Simply by inserting, say, a Win98 CD is proof enough. |

Get rid of norton!the only time i ever had system crashes and any kind of problems on my computer is when i had norton installed.i took out norton and everything went away.
![]() I dont care what anybody tells you but the biggest bunch of bull is antivirus software.I dont run any and have never gotten a virus.in fact i never got a virus until i installed norton, then i got 7 of them a day!A good antivirus app is your brain.DONT OPEN EMAILS THAT YOU DONT KNOW WHO THEY ARE and youll never have a problem.

I dont even know exactly how it happened. I guess my 9700pro doesnt like 256 arperture size.

Confirmed. With my 9700pro windows will only boot up w/o errors if I use 32mb AGP Arperature size. Go figure...Oh, and my WinME and Win98 cds are at my other house 2 hours away or else i would have used them =/

It's not your card, you should run a 128MB arpeture, you must have 256MB of RAM in your computer. US/UWSC mode switching has caused many problems with ATI's. change it to default AGAIN, then DO NOT CHANGE THIS SETTING.
That SHOULD work, I don't have an ATI, but I know one of those modes does not hardly work with ATI cards, or Nvidia cards for that matter. |

Well the next time i booted i got into windows and was told that i had lost all texture acceleration. Next boot got me the same errors when trying to get into windows. I got a new power supply and a new cpu fan, reinstalled the 9700, everything is working 200% better then before. I dont think i had enough power for my 9700. Thanks for all your help guys.
